<rjeffries>
wpwrak that's cool. I got my Dockstars for $20 each so that was fun. agree that the wifi router as an extender or base station would be A Good Thing.
<wpwrak>
rjeffries: and such wireless routers can be found worldwide, without expensive shipping. even at remote places like argentina ;-)
<wpwrak>
rjeffries: yes, but, say, a TP-Link TL-MR3420 or MR1043ND would have quite similar features, plus WLAN. similar price.
<rjeffries>
back to Dockstar: OpenWrt is running on it if I did not make that clear. I happen to use Debian on one, Plugapps on the other
<rjeffries>
thanks lekernal
<rjeffries>
Dockstar is low power ~4 watts. a lot of people are hacking it.
<rjeffries>
Dockstar does not have wifi, but people use wifi dongles
<rjeffries>
re Dockstar: Debian, Arch (Plugapps.com) and even OpenWrt are available
<rjeffries>
werner: Dockstar + atusb could be interesting. 3 full size USBs + 1 mini USB, a 1GHz ARM processor, 128MG RAM, Ethernet plus a couple of LEDs.
<wpwrak>
rjeffries: yeah, it's lowly growing on me. particularly after i discovered that it can be cut open quite cleanly
<rjeffries>
werner: I like the silicon encapsulation idea. simple, cheap, nerdy
<rjeffries>
need to catch up
2011-01-20
<wolfspraul>
rjeffries: hi Ron
<rjeffries>
good day wolf
<rjeffries>
ping
<rjeffries>
cya
<rjeffries>
but I do not use a smart phone as I consider data plans to be too expensive
<rjeffries>
N8 is the phone I would buy were I to buy a smart phone (becaus eI love the camera
<rjeffries>
well, must get toe bed. nice chatting!
<rjeffries>
there ya go.
<rjeffries>
Google is very powerful. I like what they are doing. it keeps apple from becoming a monopoly
<rjeffries>
Jobs is a genius
<rjeffries>
I admire apple, yes
<rjeffries>
but when the android 7 inch tablets get real, maybe
<rjeffries>
my background has also included the down and dirty practical part
<rjeffries>
actually I do not buy any Apple products
<rjeffries>
well, good night and best of luck
<rjeffries>
agree.
<wolfspraul>
rjeffries: one last word today. you give us very valuable feedback.
<rjeffries>
listens
<rjeffries>
the camera project also has merit, especailly since it MUST include Werner;s radio crcuit so w ecan control remotely
<rjeffries>
his card is interesting. very different target audience than Milymist
<rjeffries>
true
<rjeffries>
is Carlos actively continuing to develop what used to be SAKC (I can;t eep all the new meaningless model names straight;)
<rjeffries>
no
<rjeffries>
one last question before I am off to bed
<rjeffries>
that sounds cool
<rjeffries>
??
<rjeffries>
good stuff
<rjeffries>
briefly, a new topic?
<rjeffries>
wolf... but one assume you sold those to his distributer
<rjeffries>
I have no idea how big the VJ niche is, or whether MM will exceed what can be done with a fast lappie
<rjeffries>
his challenge will be to find the fisrt 50 people who will invest the amount of sale when volumes are low
<rjeffries>
Milkymist is technically very interesting. the designer ,ay welll be at genius level
<rjeffries>
But I am not unfamiliar with producy managment and the practicalities of maing a buc with systems
<rjeffries>
USD
<rjeffries>
buc (as in $UASD) aka profit ;)
<rjeffries>
I do not share the religious fervor that I admire in you. it taes unreasonable men to get things done
<rjeffries>
anyway you guys are doing interesting wor.
<rjeffries>
I am afraid it is a drawer computer: stays in his desk drawer
<rjeffries>
I now I sold one for you, a friend in Santa Barbara'
<rjeffries>
no regrets, Ben is not designed for me, but is a delightful product. ;)
<rjeffries>
what drivers are you missing now?
<rjeffries>
but, the practiacl Ya Nanonote will have newer Ingenic chip, wpan stuff, more memory. may not get USB host, or lighted eyboard, or larger screen
<rjeffries>
my pragmatic side would predict that you are very smart to convinve Ingenic you may walk away
<rjeffries>
sure
<rjeffries>
I assume werener is aiming to have the wpan inside a future nanonote update
<rjeffries>
MM is fabulous stuff, but attackes very different use cases than nanonote, at a much higher cost
<rjeffries>
wolf, the more memory question was "what if you spin a low risk improvment to Ben that can be done at modest cost. it would be ready when the current inventory is depleted.
<rjeffries>
wolfspraul: I pretty much assumed those factors. the point I was hinting at is MM (fpga based) is very(!) cool, but a very ;omg way from being a pocekatble cheap batter device a la Nanonote. that's all
<rjeffries>
Thanks. I finally realized this must be where the action is, since mail list is so quiet.
<wolfspraul>
rjeffries: welcome here!
<rjeffries>
19:52 <wolfspraul> rjeffries: is it the Real Ron? //yes. jave been reading some irc logs, thought I'd watch in real tiem
2011-01-19
<wolfspraul>
rjeffries: is it the Real Ron?
<wolfspraul>
hey I just noticed rjeffries was on this channel! cool!
2010-11-16
<wpwrak>
it's in fact rjeffries' question about xue that made me think of this. because it's indeed sometimes hard to see how the various little projects interconnect.
2010-08-22
<rjeffries>
wouldn't hurt to also have a link (to irc info) right after Community Portal
<rjeffries>
I stand corrected I did not scroll down that far. was looking in upper left corner
<rjeffries>
so I was looking for it and missed it let me recheck
<rjeffries>
will look again
<rjeffries>
I did not find it
<kristianpaul>
rjeffries: sure?
<rjeffries>
wolfgang: the qi-hardware main page does not have a pointer to irc fwiw
