<f1r3> dongs you get more than 10mbytes/second, and yes there is one working sata multiplexer
<dongs> really now.
<dongs> please show me a benchmark
<dongs> of it doing > 10meg
<dongs> reading sata and sending over ethernet.
<dongs> cat /sata/trash | pv | netcat somewhere 1234
<jelly-home> dongs: that's really limited by the 100Mbps ethernet. It would be interesting to see how a usb2 gig eth interface fares
<dongs> ...
<dongs> youre joking right.
<dongs> USB2 100mbit adapters never get 100mbit due to interface overhead
<jelly-home> dongs: I get 94Mbps on mine (connected to x86 tho)
<dongs> USB is "theoretically" 480, realistically half that, and I doubt its anywhere near half that on A10 or any other cheap SoC
<jelly-home> dongs: that's 12MB/s net even with tcp
<dongs> jelly-home: http://arx.ca/IMG_2143.JPG
<jelly-home> don't have a gigabit device nearby though, so I can't test it, that's why it'd be interesting to see
<jelly-home> dongs: ?
<jelly-home> dongs: you wanted to be shown, and after being shown you are now replying with a barfing frog?
<jelly-home> I don't get you man.
<dongs> < dongs> cat /sata/trash | pv | netcat somewhere 1234
<dongs> im waiting.
<dongs> on A10.
<dongs> pv = pipeview, should be available as binary
<dongs> netcat = i hope you know what that is
rellla has quit [Ping timeout: 248 seconds]

<dongs> you'll need to nc -l -p 1234 somewehre local
<dongs> to receive.
<dongs> or nc.traditional if you're on a trash distro
<jelly-home> sorry, you'll have to be more polite than barfing frogs to warrant a reply
<dongs> btw its a crayfish
<dongs> eating bacon
<jelly-home> root@cubie:~# pv < /dev/sda | nc -w1 kanta 55555
<jelly-home> 336MB 0:00:30 [11.9MB/s] [> ] 0% ETA 1:24:37
<jelly-home> same thing, eth.device is the bottleneck

<jelly-home> 11459 root 20 0 3220 816 600 R 20.3 0.1 1:20.57 pv
<jelly-home> that's over wemac
<dongs> shocking.
<dongs> lol @ cpu usage tho.
Martix_ has joined #cubieboard
<jelly-home> so assuming usb would use a similar amount of cpu (I have no idea how bad the usb drivers and vs. how bad the wemac driver is), one might push a whooping 20-25MB/s thru it... pretty much what you can get with usb2 anyway
<wooy> dongs: for the previous question, my a10 is easily doing samba on 95 Mbits. I dont remember the cpu usage, but it was much lower than i expected.
<hno> jelly-home, and maybe possible to get a bit more if you team two USB nics, one on each USB host channel.
<hno> + wemac
<hno> Will be interesting to see how A20 manages gbit ethernet. Unfortunately I only have 10/100Mbit PHY on the A20 boards I have so can't test.

<bfree> acki: I hadn't heard it had a 2TB limit but could have missed that I suppose. I'd have presumed it would handle 4TB (or larger whenever they appear) though I've none to try (stopped buying when the flood sent prices silly). but it does only handle one disk (or at least if you want to use more then one disk you need some hardware to connect the disks to that present them as one disk to the cubie)
<bfree> acki: no mention of any such limit at http://linux-sunxi.org/SATA
<acki> bfree: "Storage 4GB internal NAND flash, up to 64GB on uSD slot, up to 2T on 2.5 SATA disk"

<bfree> boot_mmc=fatload mmc 0 0x43000000 ${fexfile}; fatload mmc 0 0x41000000 ${kernel}; fatload mmc 0 0x45000000 uInitrd; bootm 0x41000000 0x45000000

<ADBensi> bfree: I need space rss.. Can I remove the files /boot vmlinuz-3.4-43.sunxi.1-sunxi-sun4i / System.map-3.4-43.sunxi.1-sunxi-sun4i (I need made anything with this?) and initrd.img-3.4-43.sunxi.1-sunxi-sun4i ?
<f1r3> does tor work good in china ?
<pirea> know somebody how to decomplie object files?
<user_2> f1r3, sure, overall the fake exit note owned by governlent :(
<user_2> note=node
<f1r3> not good :(
<user_2> they are watching us...
<f1r3> watching them ...
<user_2> they (china, USA, etc) are watching ALL of us, also now, in this channel. remember it.
<bfree> ADBensi: I guess once you've made the uImage and uInitrd you can remove the vmlinuz and initrd.img ... I "think" you can probably also safely let the System.map go (can always get them back from the package anyway, or rebuild an initrd)
<Bushmills> time to update the old echelon block sig: http://scarydevilmonastery.net/snap/1372187798070124163d.png
<ADBensi> bfree: It is wrong ? lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 43 Jan 2 01:30 initrd.img -> /boot/initrd.img-3.4-43.sunxi.1-sunxi-sun4i . Can I fix it to /boot/uInitrd ?
<Bushmills> symlink in / should be irrelevant, and mostly there for historic reasons.
<ADBensi> root@cubie:~# update-initramfs -u -k all
<ADBensi> ln: failed to create hard link `/boot/initrd.img-3.4-43.sunxi.1-sunxi-sun4i.dpkg-bak' => `/boot/initrd.img-3.4-43.sunxi.1-sunxi-sun4i': Operation not permitted
<ADBensi> update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-3.4-43.sunxi.1-sunxi-sun4i
<ADBensi> Why update-initramfs need this file if i made uInitrd with mkimage -A arm -T ramdisk -C none -n uInitrd -d /boot/initrd.img-3.4-43.sunxi.1-sunxi-sun4i /boot/uInitrd

<Bushmills> hardlink meant to provide a backup of the old initrd
irreplaceable has quit [Ping timeout: 256 seconds]
<Bushmills> if it fails, you may not have the backup, but generating a new initrd shouldn't be affected
<ADBensi> update-initramfs can work with uInitrd ? I need space in /boot , then I think to remove /boot/initrd.img-3.4-43.sunxi.1-sunxi-sun4i
<ADBensi> Eu construi /boot/uInitrd a partir de /boot/initrd.img-3.4-43.sunxi.1-sunxi-sun4i , mas não posso excluir initrd.img-3.4-43.sunxi.1-sunxi-sun4i porque update-initramfs precisa dele. Ok. Então Eu preciso manter uma cópia e gerar novamente /boot/uInitrd depois do update-initramfs ?
<ADBensi> I built / boot / uInitrd from / boot/initrd.img-3.4-43.sunxi.1-sunxi-sun4i, but I can not delete initrd.img-3.4-43.sunxi.1-sun4i because Sunxi-update-initramfs need it. Okay, so I need to keep a copy and regenerate / boot / uInitrd after update-initramfs?

<ADBensi> user_2: I try it now.. 4 days ago :////
<user_2> ADBensi, what kernel did you recompile?
<ADBensi> user_2: I try 4.4.5 .. but it doenst work for me.. then, I try the package compiled from Niall http://dl.linux-sunxi.org/users/niall/debian/
<ADBensi> sorry, 4.4.5 = 3.4.5
<ADBensi> Package the Niall is 3.4.43
<ADBensi> have many drivers...
<ADBensi> ARMv7 p2 p8
<user_2> i must recompile, cos my current does not recognize wireless usb dongle.
<ADBensi> why driver/model?
<user_2> zd1211
<ADBensi> hummm... # CONFIG_ZD1211RW is not set
<user_2> i must recompile by myself, so i can acivata all i need.
<ADBensi> http://dl.linux-sunxi.org/users/niall/debian/ doenst work for you now..
<user_2> i dont want already-packed-kernel, i need the how to do do by my self, just that.
<user_2> ok
<user_2> i read
<user_2> mmm no. it is not the right one, i think. linux for ARMv7 needs some patchs for cubieboard, it shour be exist somewhare the ow to to do it, into cibieboard wibsites.
<bfree> hmmm, can't remember for sure, but I guess ZD1211RW was one of the few things that broke building so it got disabled. I'll try and rememeber to check it sometime (don't hold you breath though)
<bfree> user_2: forget patches for 3.4, just take the full tree from linux-sunxi's github
<ADBensi> may be.. when I try it the kernel was ARMv5 ... because I don´t select te options correct..

<user_2> ADBensi, did you follow a specific howto or the "normal" recompilation as it is tipical for x86?
<ADBensi> some things get out of default ..
<ADBensi> because Debian does not recognize the cubieboard as a platform yet ...
<user_2> bfree, thks
<user_2> ADBensi, thks
<bfree> ADBensi: actually Debian does, but only in experimental 3.10 kernel's and they have next to no hardware support (no hdmi, sata, sd, nand, ethernet ... so no rootfs only an initrd) ... and they've no u-boot for it either. when Linux 3.10~rc7-1~exp1 (experimental) gets built on armhf the experimental kernel will at least support the ethernet also on cubie (so nfs/nbd root will work)
<ADBensi> :D cool, I read it too;

<bfree> http://linux-sunxi.org/Linux_mainlining_effort gives you an idea what is in and what is out of debian's kernels (just they accepted cherrypicked patches for emac for 3.10 which makes it slightly usable instead of nearly useless)

<ADBensi> It did not work .. it is load the kernel /boot/uInitrd but not mount rootfs. I put nls_ascii ext4 vfat / mnt / etc / initramfs-tools / modules and updated the uInitrd with mkimage. I have instructions for loading / boot / linux / env.txt being read.

<bfree> you could actually load the uInitrd ;)

<bfree> you don't need the "setenv initrd_high 0xffffffff; " btw, that's just needed for device-tree kernels
