<
nmz787>
then there's also simulators for implant depths and dosage
<
Noxz>
I'm actually not interested in MEMS, but micro gears
<
Noxz>
obviosuly using similar techiques, though
<
nmz787>
seems like that'd just be FEA or something then
<
nmz787>
some kind of strength modelling
<
Noxz>
I am highly interested in the elasticity though
<
Noxz>
my current wristwatch uses a Silicon balance spring
<
Noxz>
anyways, I have a weired idea of trying to make the worlds smallest mechnical watch, beating the current record holder by orders of magnitude
<
nmz787>
I was working on modelling involute gears yesterday in BRLCAD
<
nmz787>
and was reading about how cycloids are used in watches
<
nmz787>
I might want to try making some MEMS gears eventually, but first want to come up with a parametric part script
<
nmz787>
first use case is a macro 3d printed design
<
nmz787>
from what i read, cycloids have less teeth touching, so less friction, so less power required, less stiction, less noise
<
Noxz>
yup, that's basically it
<
nmz787>
but also not as strong, but for watches that isn't too important
<
nmz787>
i don't know too much about gears yet, but I am learning
<
Noxz>
I have another idea of using distributed compliance and buckling to have zero friction.. so no more gears
<
Noxz>
just pressure points
<
Noxz>
yeah, havent done much work on it, beyond thinking
<
Noxz>
a million othe rporojects going on
<
nmz787>
i feel like i've seen some buckling modelling somewhere, must have been a journal article
<
Noxz>
I recently got a CastAR devkit.. so working on porting an old macintosh game over as a Proof of Concept
<
Noxz>
working on the Animal AI right now..
<
Noxz>
speaking of which, that's over on my other computer.. thanks for the info, hopping on that one to continue my work
<
Noxz>
I'm glad it's a 3 day weekend in the US..
<
nmz787>
yeah for sure :)
<
Helldesk>
ooh CastAR, how are you liking it?
<
Noxz>
It's fun.. not too much with it, as it wont take much to actually get the game working, most of my time is spent learning Unity
<
Noxz>
(I'm a sysadmin, so tons of bash and perl scripts.. but I do know c/c++ well enough)
<
Noxz>
I am trying to get a workable demo for them in time for GDC.. in two weeks
<
Noxz>
not sure if I'll hit it, but I'm trying
<
Noxz>
there's only one demo available, too.. so it's obviously trying to get us to code our owns than playing with it ;)
<
Noxz>
also, noticeably an early version.. not yet consumer ready
<
Noxz>
but, next gen technology in your hands is always fun
<
Noxz>
.. back to coding this AI..
<
nmz787>
oooh cool that's the jeri ellsworth project
<
nmz787>
how is it?
<
Noxz>
they're new office is 20 mins from me
<
nmz787>
where is that?
<
Noxz>
so, if I have any problems, it'll be solved very quickly ;)
<
Noxz>
in Mountain View
<
Noxz>
Silicon Valley area
<
Noxz>
they moved from the seattle area
<
nmz787>
i thought they might have been in seattle
<
Noxz>
they needed to be closer to their parts people
<
nmz787>
so is it amazing?
<
Noxz>
to have better relationships
<
Noxz>
it's good ;)
<
Noxz>
I demo'd it several times before receiving mine
<
Noxz>
California Extreme, MakerFair, GDC..
<
nmz787>
hmm, i missed it at makerfaire, I guess I was too busy manning our booth
<
nmz787>
there was sooo much there
<
Noxz>
they wer ehidden in the dark room, by the Tesla band and the electric girraffe
<
Noxz>
anywho.. back to making Animals run away
