<john_cephalopoda> Huh, LCD displays are pretty simple devices. Two polarizers, some liquid crystal, some transparent electrodes that can be sputtered onto the polarizers..
<john_cephalopoda> With the feature sizes that were already reached here, making an LCD screen sounds totally feasible.

<lain> the way they bond chip-on-glass stuff is pretty neat, too. wonder how hard it'd be to do at home... they use an epoxy or such loaded with small conductive spheres. when you press the chip down onto the glass (epoxy in between the two), a monolayer of spheres should form between them. the spheres are distributed such that plenty will make contact from die to glass, but never short between adjacent bond pads
<lain> I would assume there's some careful engineering there with respect to coefficient of thermal expansion
<pie_> yeah delamination would suck :P
