This way as a single node you may create your own 3y+ redundancy without the need of staying online for distribution after publishing, and you can lower the storage footprint on some node, while keeping/boosting the availability.

If some accelerated client wants receive some historical announced ipfs directory(deleted from drive/low peer distributed) and its unable to find nodes within a certain time, it reaches for some alt.binaries.ipfs and downloads the directory/file uploaded by himself earlier or by others when available, and mirrors the data back to the IPFS ecosystem.
