I'm running libreelec on rpi3b+, and it kodi keeps freezing

I know the system itself is ok, as I can ssh into it, tvheadend responds, and it still records

but I've tried restarting kodi via systemd and I get nada, I then try reconnect using remote and it won't connect, and neither will the web interface

if I reload the web interface page it cannot establish connection so 503 error
<DaRock>
any ideas what is wrong and what I can do to retrieve media playing without a complete reboot of the pi?
