I'm running openSUSE with GNOME3 desktop and depending on where I clicked I seemed to get either a regular click for e.g. moving a window or the context menu

hrmm, I'm very ignorant about the gfx stack but I wonder if that is just libinput that is using other keycodes (e.g: BTN_TOUCH + ABS_MT_*)
