out of curiosity, is anyone else getting artifacts around mouse cursor when using compositing wm with the armsoc x11 driver?
<amitk>
zenmetsu: did you get everything working with sjoerd's kernel?
<zenmetsu>
no :( funny story on that. I'd get broken text on xfce4 panel, and gtk windows, as well as kde... and when i tried to start kwin_gles, the screen would stop updating until i did CTRL-C to kill kwin_gles and fall back to x11 without a wm
<zenmetsu>
but es2_info and es2gears worked just fine. i thought it was an issue with my gentoo build, so i did a ubuntu install with the 3.8.11 driver, and everything worked as expected. when i booted sjoerd's kernel, i had the exact same problems in ubuntu
<zenmetsu>
falling back to 3.8.11 kernel on my gentoo install, i get kwin_gles to come up and performance is pretty amazing, but i get artifacts when i move my cursor :/

amitk: does that answer your question? i'd be willing to do more testing, but curious if anyone else is using sjoerd's kernel on a CB2 with success, maybe i'm noobing something
<sjoerd>
zenmetsu: I must admit i've only ever very minimally tested X with it
<zenmetsu>
sjoerd: all good, my box is your guinea pig :)
<amitk>
sjoerd: I see a new branch sjoerd-graphics/wip/3.18.x/exynos-odroid-xu3
<sjoerd>
zenmetsu: where did you get the blobs from? chromeos or ARM ?
<sjoerd>
amitk: Yeah that's my XU3 work
<sjoerd>
amitk: thusfar it boots with working HDMI, didn't test the mali stuff there yet
<zenmetsu>
yes. chromeos or arm. I tested with both
<sjoerd>
I see
<sjoerd>
the X testing i did was just with plain mutter nothing more complicated and that seemed ok
<zenmetsu>
they both work fine in the chromeos 3.8.11 kernel. they both work in your kernel, but es2_info segfaults on exit, but otherwise works fine with the arm blob. chromeos blob doesn't trigger segfault on es2_info
<sjoerd>
amitk: just fwiw, doing some MFC testing next and then time for getting the mali going
<sjoerd>
amitk: so if you're beating me to it let me know :)
<amitk>
sjoerd: I'll continue plugging away and announce it here if I get something working
<sjoerd>
amitk: great thanks
<zenmetsu>
i ran glmark-es2 and scored 60 with the chromeos kernel. i can try with your kernel as well sjoerd
<zenmetsu>
the garbled text really confused me though, since i got it with two unrelated distros :/
<amitk>
sjoerd: just curious, are you targeting a standard linux distro or android on the XU3?
<sjoerd>
amitk: standard linux distro
<sjoerd>
amitk: Our "in-house" distro is Debian jesie was as little tweaks as we can get away with
<sjoerd>
It's a shame the exynos kernels didn't shape up a bit more in time for 3.16 otherwise we could have shipped out of the box support for them with jessie :/
<sjoerd>
ah well
* amitk
nods
<amitk>
most of the good stuff landed in 3.17 and 3.18
<amitk>
with more churn and fixes expected in 3.19
<sjoerd>
yeah
<sjoerd>
well the display support still didn't entirely land
<zenmetsu>
the b.L MP stuff though is great.
* sjoerd
was somewhat grumpy to discover that HDMI support upstream on exynos is completely broken
<zenmetsu>
maybe that is why HDMI did not work for me :D
<sjoerd>
zenmetsu: should work on my kernels
<sjoerd>
with pure mainline you have the option of not enabing exynos DRM iommu support which means you get the stripey pyamas displayed on your screen
<sjoerd>
or you can turn it on and have your board oops during boot
<sjoerd>
...
<zenmetsu>
oops? nah, boot-time screensaver :)
