<ariellea> hi all, built mainline 4.1.1 for Snow, basic loading appears to work but I cannot get X to start using fbdev nor armsoc. I know it sounds silly but what would my first steps be. I am happy to document what is working/non-working with 4.1.1 mainline.
<ariellea> (I use the kernel signing method, not nv-uboot)

<Wizzup> ariellea: hi
<Wizzup> What are the errors in the X log?
<Wizzup> did you see our snow page on the wiki? it mostly lists what is working with 4.1
<ariellea> Wizzup: I'll check if I archived the logs, armsoc said it couldn't find EXA
<Wizzup> I have fbdev, modesetting and fbturbo working
<Wizzup> Using modesetting atm
<Wizzup> on 4.1.0-rc8
<ariellea> hmm, weird. I'll reboot later into it and archive away the logs.
<ariellea> actually I'll do it now. bbiab

<ariellea> Wizzup: that is with armsoc driver
<ariellea> fbdev complained about no extended edid data on console, but didn't put up a display.
<Wizzup> can you try xf86-video-modesetting
<Wizzup> with no configuration for the display
<ariellea> so no display block in the xorg.config and the device driver is 'modesetting' ?
<Wizzup> I don't specify any driver and it defaults to modesetting.
<ariellea> ok
<Wizzup> The only configs in xorg.conf.d are for synaptics and wacom
<ariellea> lol I am on monolithic conf file for xorg, I'll leave the touchpad driver enabled.

<ariellea> Wizzup: modesetting works thanks, in both 3.8.11 and 4.1.1. Now I need to make a new kernel with adequate wifi, lol
<ariellea> Once I get wifi I'll do a full hardware test in 4.1.1 and see what works.
<Wizzup> You need the wifi as module
<Wizzup> er, no
<Wizzup> disregard ne
<Wizzup> me
<Wizzup> You need to enable the fw fallback
<Wizzup> I thought I mentioned that on the wiki
<ariellea> yeah I enabled that, but didn't recompile
<Wizzup> $ zgrep FALLBACK /proc/config.gz
<Wizzup> CONFIG_FW_LOADER_USER_HELPER_FALLBACK=y
<Wizzup> ack.
<Wizzup> good luck.
<Wizzup> back later.
<ariellea> thanks :)

<ariellea> Wizzup: 4.1.1 works with X, thanks for the help. I'll go through all my devices and see what is working or not.
<Wizzup> ariellea: :)
<ariellea> audio isn't working, but I read on the channel log that seems to be outstanding.
<Wizzup> yes

<ariellea> nice my usb3 hdd works in 4.1.1
<ariellea> webcam isn't working which is a shame
<Wizzup> not yet
<Wizzup> do you use the cam?
<ariellea> not often

<ariellea> so the cam isn't detected. is that likely to be a power problem as I thought it was a usb device?

<Wizzup> ariellea: yes
<Wizzup> ariellea: see the log
<Wizzup> we also discussed the log

<ariellea> how many days ago approx?
<Wizzup> just search for 'cam'
<Wizzup> probably a week or so
<si1v3r> I think the camera is working on mine. I enabled all the multimedia drivers.
<Wizzup> on snow??
<Wizzup> It doesn't even show on lsusb on snow
<Wizzup> peach-pi/peach-pit may work
<si1v3r> No I mean I had to compile a bunch of additional modules
<si1v3r> then /dev/video1 and /dev/video0 showed up.
<Wizzup> si1v3r: but it is not *SEEN* on the usb bus
<si1v3r> I didn't test with a ciewer
<Wizzup> So it's not a driver problem, it's just never brought up
<Wizzup> If you see some /dev/video it may be the mfc
<si1v3r> I figured it was directly connected to the SOC like a phone or a raspi.
<Wizzup> not afaik
<sjoerd> it's on usb indeed
<sjoerd> but you need to turn on its power to make it appear
<ariellea> I don't see any /dev/video files on my system :(
