<apritzel> Hi, does anyone know what "Nexell" is and does? Are they licensing Samsung SoCs and market them under their own label? Looking at the S5P6818, in particular (for instance on the NanoPi M3 board)
<forkbomb> apritzel: afaik Nexell is a company that samsung bought, and beyond naming the SoCs aren't similar to exynos at all
<apritzel> forkbomb: mmh, but the manual tells me that this SoC is a collection of Samsung peripherals (I could confirm UART and MMC, so far)
<apritzel> maybe not exactly Exynos, but some earlier Samsung chips?
<forkbomb> down the end of that log they mention nexell
<apritzel> forkbomb: ah, thanks for the pointer ...
<javier___> apritzel, forkbomb: my understanding is that nexell has nothing to do with Samsung, it's a fabless company that designs chips and outsource its manufacturing
<javier___> Samsung being one of the foundries used
<apritzel> which is basically a (confidential, of course) Samsung manual with a small "Powered by Nexell" logo stitched in
<apritzel> so I'd go with: it's a Nexell SoC, which for whatever reason bears similarities with some Samsung SoCs or at least some Samsung peripherals
