btw

using stdin/stdout is terrible interface!

same for 1 letter command
<Soopaman>
hola naobsd, is the github url you listed the best place to find rk3188 and rk3288 appropriate linux kernels?
<naobsd>
Soopaman: it depends your object. if you need Linux mainline, github/linux-rockchip is not best place.
<Soopaman>
naobsd: other than a linux kernel that I can compile that enables the bluetooth hardware, I'm honestly not even sure where to start given the proliferation of kernel resources and patch "standards"

<AstralixNB>
Funny... my radxa serial port doesn't work here on my notebook, while it works perfectly at home with my workstation.
<AstralixNB>
same usb-serial adapter board at both places
<naobsd>
AstralixNB: some radxa users mentioned it...
<AstralixNB>
There was a modification for the later boards according ESD and over voltage protection. But My adapters work down to 1.2V...
<hramrach_>
once my adaptor did not work and when I disassembled and reassembled everything it miraculously started to work again
<rperier>
mmind00: can you power supply the marsboard through usb ? (like the radxa) or only through the power supply connector ?
<hramrach_>
read their manual/schematic ;-)
<mmind00>
rperier: I run my marsboard though the usb all the time
<rperier>
I am looking for an usb relay to handle the power supply remotely, that's why I am wondering how the marsboard might be powered
<rperier>
mmind00: through the usb otg ?
<mmind00>
rperier: yep
<rperier>
ok perfect, thanks
<PaowZ_>
AstralixNB: mine is just one-way..
<PaowZ_>
I can only receive data from the board but cannot send data, apparently..
<PaowZ_>
so I end up with the console prompt.. no way to log in.
<AstralixNB>
relocate serial port to a pin pair available through the side headers and keep care that you only adapt a USB-serial adapter that is not giving more than 3V3 on any pin.
<AstralixNB>
You probably have caused an ESD shot to the input or got a latch-up by applying to high voltage to the input.
<PaowZ_>
I'm talking about the serial console (FIQ0 ?) we get through the usb cable that ends with 3 wires
<AstralixNB>
There where taken countermeasures against that in newer radxa hardware releases
<AstralixNB>
Yes me too.
<PaowZ_>
ah.. ok..
<PaowZ_>
so you advise me to relocate serial port ??
<AstralixNB>
You can set any other serial port for beeing console. In worst case you might miss some early kernel messages but can use any serial port as a tty
<PaowZ_>
so we leave the 3 debug pins ?
<AstralixNB>
That is at least one option to get full access again
<PaowZ_>
the side headers are GPIO thing ??
<AstralixNB>
With linux kernel it should be enough to check that one of the other serial ports is enabled and you could modify the kernel command line in parameter to use console=/dev/tty[0..x]
<PaowZ_>
wooww.. ^^
<PaowZ_>
fine..
<AstralixNB>
And yes, I was talking of the headers at the side of the PCB
<PaowZ_>
I have to ensure I blew the input, first..
<PaowZ_>
that would be a shame, since I haven't made my RRPro works yet..
<AstralixNB>
Have to leave now. Be back in an hour or so with my alter ego :)

<hramrach_>
hmm, so how do I make a board.c or DT for booting on a board for which no config exists so far?
<hramrach_>
and where do I get SPL or other DDR setup blob?
<hramrach_>
I guess I need a kernel with graphics support
<hramrach_>
I have a lcd and hdmi but no serial
<mmind00>
hramrach_: display support for mainline kernels is still a bit away ... but in general for a dt you would ideally just use one of the available board .dts files as base [as rockchip boards often follow a reference design]
<mmind00>
hramrach_: in mainline land, the kernel config itself and also the whole kernel code is supposed to be board-independent ... so the .dts is the only thing board-specific
<cristian_c>
hi
<cristian_c>
naobsd, is fbset contained in cwm recovery?
eebrah has joined #linux-rockchip
<hramrach_>
presumably you can just upload it over adb if it is not
<hramrach_>
mmind00: ok, no display rules out mainline then
<hramrach_>
yes, presumably with DT you have all rk devices listed and you just set 'ok' on devices actually present
<hramrach_>
or IPs or whatever
