or anyone who had fel working - could you say which version of fel you are using ?? I built mine from the current master branch and what OS (Im using ubuntu with a 3.14 mainline kernel) but I'm getting "usb_bulk_recv error -7" while reading or writing but 'fel version' does work

maksimlin: it may be that you booted the very low level fel and are trying to r/w memory
<Turl>
maksimlin: there's two ways to get to fel, the one directly from BROM, when eg all your storage is completely shot
<Turl>
and a second one, that is executed after boot0 runs and it detects a key press on the serial console
<maksimlin>
Turl: yes sorry back now - thanks yes I should have said, I booted into FEL using the tiny img for sdcard, pressing pwr or reset button
<maksimlin>
I think I also prev tried this using the hardware button combo for my tab too to get into FEL but I'll try that again
<maksimlin>
I dont have uart access to the tab so I cant use the press '2' on console method, though I do have the uSDcard breakout board once I can get my own u-boot on to it
<maksimlin>
Turl sorry I dont know how I missed that bit on the wiki page - Ive been scouring the wiki last couple of days and even a google search for the "err mesg + sunxi + fel" didnt turn up that wiki page :-(

Turl: right makes sense now
<maksimlin>
Turl: I've got a couple of A10 tabs currntly running android ICS that I want to test newer kernels on and also try to port FirefoxOS too
<maksimlin>
my first goal was to get my own u-boot on them to get a conole via uSDcard uart breakout and also a my own uboot with fastboot impl it to make life easier copying boot/system imgs into internal nand
<maksimlin>
Turl: does that make sense? and sorry for the delayed replies,. trying to multitask b/w other house work here :-)
<maksimlin>
Turl: I should say I have another related goal of getting a custom u-boot running on a A31 tab I'm expectign to get soon as part of a moz program to test fxos on tablets...
<maksimlin>
as their initial tabs dont seem to have any hardware button method to get the u-boot thats already on the tabs into fastboot mode (can only do it via adb) so several ppl in the program have already 'bricked' their tabs by lfashing bad boot/system imgs onto the nand
<maksimlin>
Turl: pls let me know if I'm going about this the wrong way - I'm still very new to sunxi, u-boot etc (though been doing aosp dev for a while) so any help or pointers most appreciated!

maksimlin: do you really want to rely on AW's fastboot?
<Turl>
last I tried it was pretty broken
<maksimlin>
Turl: oh, didnt realise that!
<maksimlin>
I just thought it woudl be the easiest way since I'm familar with it
<Turl>
maksimlin: if I were you I'd make a card with CWM, TWRP or whatever
<Turl>
and use that to flash/fix stuff
<maksimlin>
Turl: oh right thats a good point and then just put new imgs on part on the card
<maksimlin>
on another partition on the card I meant
<maksimlin>
Turl: I cant seem to find on that wiki page which methods to take you into FEL via boot0/1 ??
<Turl>
maksimlin: it's mostly pressing a button on the serial console while boot0/1 starts
<Turl>
it's explained on that same page
<maksimlin>
Turl: oh ok - so that means I've got to get the tab open and go hunting for uart pins on the board :-(
<maksimlin>
Turl: thats what I was hoping to avoid :-( since the *&#%@^ Onda vendor who made them decided in their wisdom to glue along the edge of the inside of the case
<maksimlin>
I'd hoped I could get into FEL, write my own spl and uboot into mem, exec them and thus have uboot serial then on the sdcard uart and then I'd be set
<maksimlin>
but now I see the bit to use a10-meminfo at the bottom of that page, sorry!
<maksimlin>
Turl: can I check I understand correctly.. use the info from a10-meminfo to pick existing config or make my own new one, then can use that to build bootable sdcard with spl/uboot/kernel/basic rootfs and then I can replace the uboot on the device with my own? (using the sunxi-linux kernel with /dev/nand support) ?
<maksimlin>
Turl need to head off now, hopefully I've got that right, thanks again for all your help!
<Turl>
maksimlin: the uboot on the device's nand is probably best if left alone
<Turl>
at most, replace it with a lichee-dev branch one, that's the only uboot with nand support
<Turl>
if you want to remain sane, stick with sd cards :)

<Otyugh>
Hey. I'm basically new at this. I bought recently a A20-olinuxino. And I've HDMI problems (I don't seem to be able to get more than a 720p60f on a 1920*1080 screen). So I assumed I had to modify stuff in /opt/sunxi-tools/script.bin. Change it to texte, modify, and re-change it to .bin at the same location. Am I right so far ?
<smotocel69>
yeap
<smotocel69>
Otyugh i am not sure if your script.bin file is in /opt/sunxi-tools/***
<Otyugh>
thanks, I had doubts since I wasn't seeing any effect ont the modification I did. ^^'
<smotocel69>
i think is in /boot
<smotocel69>
or something like this
<Otyugh>
well, mlocate found only one script.bin in the entire system ^^'
<smotocel69>
Otyugh you have uEnv.txt file?
<smotocel69>
resolution can be changed from that file if exists
<Otyugh>
no, there is nothing called like that
<smotocel69>
oky
<smotocel69>
so
<smotocel69>
bin2fex script.bin script.fex
<smotocel69>
nano script.fex
<smotocel69>
fex2bin script.fex script.bin
<smotocel69>
:)
<smotocel69>
is all you need to do
<Otyugh>
but I'm disturbed : I change the scree0_oiutput_type and miode, it don't seem to change anything. I saw on the sunxi wiki that tyhis should do some changes ;:s
<Otyugh>
yeah
<Otyugh>
I did that just a few moment ago (But I know I should have come here before :p)
<Otyugh>
ho, crap, sorry for the spelling...
<smotocel69>
i think you don't modify the right script.bin file :D
<Otyugh>
well
<smotocel69>
your os is installed on nand or sd card?
<Otyugh>
sd card
<Otyugh>
but it have a nandbut I agree with you. There is something fishy
<Otyugh>
-(the nand is not used yet)
<Otyugh>
mhm
<Otyugh>
but isn't that strange that "updatedb" and "locate script.bin" don't find it if it is on a other location ?
<smotocel69>
Otyugh give me the output of "df -h"

has anyone looked at baby-jumbo support for EMAC? (i.e. being able to set an MTU above 1500 -- e.g. it's useful to have MTU 1508 for PPPoE)
<atsampson>
at present the driver uses .ndo_change_mtu = eth_change_mtu, so it'll reject anything above 1500, but it's not obvious whether the hardware might actually support it

it might also be worth noting that EMAC_UNDOCUMENTED_MAGIC is actually documented, in the A20 manual

Hi all... I'm trying to setup uboot for show a splash image... anyone has got it ?
<buZz>
not sure if thats supported?
<buZz>
you mean have a framebuffer in uboot?
<buZz>
i'm actually not sure if uboot has -any- video code in it currently
<iw2lsi_>
mmm... just show a static image while loading the kernel
<iw2lsi_>
there is a CONFIG_SPLASH_SCREEN key in uboot... so I think it's supported
<buZz>
i'm not sure
<iw2lsi_>
I'm looking at it because loading the kernel and start my frame-buffer based-app (written with qt5) takes about 15 seconds...

iw2lsi_: maybe you should optimize your app? :p
<iw2lsi_>
hi turl... it's not my app that takes 15 seconds... it's the boot phase (uboot+loading kernel+loading qt libraries etc)... of course... I can reduce the kernel size but a splash screen would be great :D
FreezingCold has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]

<iw2lsi_>
in the link you post the boot process is really fast... but for sure they don't use the standard u-boot provided by sunxi :D
<Turl>
iw2lsi_: assuming like the slowest scenario, uboot and the kernel will probably be ready in like 10s
<Turl>
iw2lsi_: so your app is still plenty slow :p
<Turl>
iw2lsi_: now, if you disable the uboot 3s wait and use a decent sd card, it can probably be up in like 5s
<iw2lsi_>
that's would be great... 5 secs are ok... >=10s from my point o view require a spash screen...
<iw2lsi_>
the stange fact is uboot seems ready for a splash screen... but maybe not the sunxy version.
<Turl>
iw2lsi_: our uboot doesn't have support for that
<Turl>
AW adds the splash on tablets via their nand bootloader, boot0/1
<iw2lsi_>
ah... that's a bad news... :-(
<iw2lsi_>
I'll try to reduce the kernel size then, and to optimize the boot phase.
<iw2lsi_>
thanks for the info Turl...
