I could have an Ippo Q8H-V1.0 tablet according to your wiki, It has been restored to default but it can't turn on wifi nor bluetooth, wifi says turning on but after 30secs it just turns off again and bluetooth does not even try to turn on, What do you think I should do?

<mrnuke>
but I haven't found a patterm. just running IOtraces and seeing how each jmp behaves
<libv>
mrnuke: i think that that is the one, yes
<libv>
mrnuke: you are using mshopf's atombios disassembler, right?
<mrnuke>
yes

hey guys! i'm using the sunxi-3.4 branch of the linux-sunxi kernel on my AllWinner A10 board. since i moved from the deprecated kernel option CONFIG_SUN4I_GPIO_UGLY to CONFIG_GPIO_SUNXI, my touchscreen has stopped working. i can see error messages in my dmesg output, but it seems i can't google my way to fix the issue. is there anyone here who could help me with this?
<the_isz>
nevermind, i'll write to the mailing list. it's probably an unfavourable time now :) happy new year to everyone!

libv: BTW, I keep meaning to tell you. There's a project started by some coreboot folks to create native VGA init for AMD Trinity/Richland. I thought you might wanted to know about it
<libv>
mrnuke: i think i heard of it
<libv>
mrnuke: we could've had that in 2009 if people hadn't gone and actively killed a proper open source project for their own glory.

libv: you're talking about the radeon vs radeonhd shenanigance?
domidumont has joined #linux-sunxi
<libv>
yes
<libv>
we at radeonhd only left about 400 atombios instructions in ASICInit for coreboot people to do
<mrnuke>
sadly, at that time there was not a clear idea of proper native vga init in coreboot
<libv>
but according to daniels, we were the corporate ones
<libv>
sure there was

i was working towards that for years

and i ended up the one to first implement it as well, as soon as SuSE kicked me out (and 24 others)

libv: I hate code politics. Never made any sense to me
<vishnu_>
well, I've couple of questions related to drm
<vishnu_>
Is it possible to have drm driver in mainline without MALI ?
<libv>
mrnuke: guess how i feel
<libv>
mrnuke: i have had to deal with nothing but code politics ever since i started in 2003
<libv>
the whole modesetting story is another good one
<wens>
vishnu_: the gpu and display engine are separate things, unlike on your pc
<libv>
wens: erm... _not_ unlike on your pc
<libv>
wens: it's just that the people involved with drm are shortsighted idiots
<vishnu_>
okie.
<mrnuke>
libv: our plan is, if radeon people politicize too much about it, we just set the mode in coreboot, and inject a fake atombios, with only data tables. then linux is stuck with whatever mode we set.
<libv>
mrnuke: you can count on it becoming political
<libv>
at the very least, i will be there stating "if you political assholes hadn't sided with ATI back in 2007..."
<mrnuke>
I'll be sure to CC you when I make contact with the radeon guys
<mrnuke>
I even told my contact at AltreraPraxis Ltd , who's indirectly backing this project, that I'll hack, he can deal with the politics
<wens>
libv: uh, i meant they were independent units, whereas on the pc they are typically shipped as one
<vishnu_>
will developing drm driver for sunxi very time consuming?
<libv>
wens: they are just as interdependent on a soc as on a discrete gpu
<libv>
vishnu_: yes.
<libv>
vishnu_: why do you need this?
<libv>
wens: they basically only really share the same silicon and access to the same memory controller
<libv>
and they both come on the same module
<libv>
so an SoC is not different from a gpu chip
<vishnu_>
I just wanted to learn
<wens>
ok, i guess that's right, as you can use the shader or whatever to do computations without displaying them
<vishnu_>
where should I start, should taking reference like exynos drm driver will help?
<vishnu_>
which drm driver will be more suitable to refer for sunxi drm?
<libv>
vishnu_: what part of drm would you require?
<vishnu_>
final goal would be running X11 on sunxi board
<libv>
vishnu_: and you cannot do that now?
<libv>
vishnu_: did you try looking at our wiki?
<vishnu_>
can we do it with mainline simple frame buffer driver?
<vishnu_>
libv: yes, we can do it on 3.4 kernel, I am talking about mainline
<libv>
X has run on top of fbdev since fbdevs inception
<vishnu_>
ok
<vishnu_>
can we develop drm driver without mali like TI has done without POWERVR?

will the A10/20 watchdog trigger on a brown out?
<ssvb>
vishnu_: you can already use X11 with simplefb
<Seppoz>
can anyone recommend an external i2c watchdog with linux support. my system sometimes run into a brownout or hangs for an unknown reason. so im wondering if the internal watchdog will work or not
<ssvb>
vishnu_: and yes, a drm/kms driver is not going to be too difficult to create, some work can be saved by borrowing code from u-boot
<vishnu_>
ssvb: thanks.
<vishnu_>
I'll look into it.
