<Foaly> how does this compare to rust?
<SeanTAllen> thats an incredibly broad question Foaly
<Foaly> what programs do i write with pony?
<SeanTAllen> the largest difference to some would that pony has a high-performance actor based runtime that makes it much easier than starting from scratch to write safe, fast concurrent programs
<aturley_> Foaly pony is good for writing programs that are highly concurrent
<aturley_> er ... what sean said.
<SeanTAllen> Foaly have you read https://www.ponylang.org/discover/ ?
aturley_ is now known as aturley
<Foaly> it definitely looks interesting
<SeanTAllen> The quick explanation I give some folks Foaly is "kind of like Erlang meets Rust"
<Foaly> i've never worked with a language that has actors
<Foaly> but i did a little bit of functional programming
<SeanTAllen> what's your background Foaly?
<Foaly> started with pascal, then learned C# by myself, also some superficial python. I later started to like plain C for personal projects.
<Foaly> And in university i learned a little bit of OCaml

<Foaly> and i don't like c
<Foaly> ++
<Foaly> apparently, building the compiler does not work if the path contains spaces ...

<SeanTAllen> Foaly: that is often problematic with unix/shell driven things
<SeanTAllen> if you need any help learning, we'll be here
