<civillian> how do I generate a Gemfile.lock file?

<Radar> civillian: run bundle install
<civillian> Radar: hi! When I run that, I get: Bundler could not find compatible versions for gem "jquery-ui-rails"
<Radar> civillian: There's surely more than just one line of error.
<Radar> civillian: Gist it. https://gist.github.com
<civillian> yeah just didn't want to flood
<civillian> yet
<Radar> Gemfile plz
<civillian> I've manually installed jquery-ui-rails (5.0.0, 4.2.1)
<civillian> well ive hacked it to pieces trying to fix this error

<civillian> what does the ~> mean
<Radar> Show me what you have so far
* Radar ~> 3.1.0 would mean any version within 3.1.x
<Radar> So 3.1.1, 3.1.2 ... 3.1.n
<civillian> ok
<codyrobbins> I have a gem in my Gemfile that is available locally so I’m using the :path option to point to its directory. However, the gem can’t be found by Rubygems and it’s not in the list of loaded specs. Does anyone know how I can go about debugging this?
<Radar> codyrobbins: show us the error please
<codyrobbins> Radar: /Users/Foo/.rvm/rubies/ruby-1.9.3-p374/lib/ruby/1.9.1/rubygems/dependency.rb:247:in `to_specs': Could not find foo (>= 0) amongst […]
<Radar> codyrobbins: https://gist.github.com the entire stacktrace please
<Radar> and no fake values
<Radar> and your gemfile
<civillian> Radar: so what would ~> 1.2 mean? 1.x? Least significant version number?
<Radar> civillian: 1.2, 1.3... 1.x
<Radar> but not 2.0
<civillian> ok great. it's hard to google ~>
<Radar> codyrobbins: why Rails 4.0.0.beta1?
<codyrobbins> Radar: It’s a long story, but this was working fine until something on my system changed. Something in RVM/Bundler/Rubygems or something else changed and no this no longer works.
<codyrobbins> It worked fine the last time I touched this.
<Radar> codyrobbins: 4.0.0.beta1 is a very old version of Rails. I would recommend using the latest from the 4.0.x version.
<Radar> Which seems to be 4.0.9
<codyrobbins> Radar: The problem here isn’t Rails. I’m using the 4.0.0.beta1 for a very specific reason, it’s not relevant to the problem I’m having.
<Radar> codyrobbins: I can't help you if you refuse my advice.
<codyrobbins> I just want to load a gem from a local directory
<Radar> You are using a very old beta version of Rails.
<Radar> You need to use the more recent version of Rails, because it seems that something is having trouble resolving your railites version.
<codyrobbins> Radar: And I explained that I have to be using that beta version.
<Radar> It has nothing to do with your path.
<codyrobbins> Radar: I’m just looking for how I can debug this.
<codyrobbins> Since it worked before.

<tmoore> civillian: did you solve your problem?
<civillian> tmoore: Progress has been made!
<civillian> tmoore: currently having an issue with au-m.rubygems.org which seems to be offline
<civillian> tmoore: so I've changed it to a github: entry in the Gemfile
<civillian> seems to work
