<raz>
maybe we should add a discord and slack room, too
<raz>
just to make the set complete :P

<FromGitter>
<watzon> raz already have an unofficial discord
<raz>
watzon: lol
<raz>
personally in terms of usability i like Slack > Discord > IRC > Matrix >>>>>>>>>>>>> Gitter
<FromGitter>
<Blacksmoke16> slack over getter eh?
<raz>
bit of a wash between matrix & irc tho. i guess matrix has a brighter future
<FromGitter>
<Blacksmoke16> er discord
<raz>
yea, but it's a bit of a wash between the two as well
<FromGitter>
<Blacksmoke16> discord is deff more gaming focused, i.e. as an actual company ofc use slack as it has more integrations and such. but as just a place to communicate both are quite good
<raz>
yea, they feel almost identical
<raz>
discord is much easier to onboard people tho
<raz>
so that one should prob be preferred
<FromGitter>
<asterite> I'd really like us to use slack. It's nice that you can have channels. So we could have channels for lucky, ameba, etc.
<FromGitter>
<watzon> Eww slack
<FromGitter>
<watzon> Discord has channels too though
<yxhuvud>
to me it is more Slack == Discord == IRC == Gitter >>>>>>>>>>>>> Forums :P. Slack integrates better with what else I use but it is so resource intensitive :/
<FromGitter>
<watzon> I don't like that slack forces me to have a different account for everything. I've got like 10 different slack accounts at this point.

<j8r> there are already channels in gitter for them @asterite
<FromGitter>
<j8r> they can use Slack if they prefer - but they use Gitter
<FromGitter>
<sam0x17> can I use something like `"*.js|*.json"` with `Dir.glob`? or do I need to do some processing
<FromGitter>
<alehander92> the problem with slack is 10k limit
<FromGitter>
<alehander92> is actually easy to get to
<FromGitter>
<alehander92> which is not a bad thing but important still
<FromGitter>
<j8r> In fact, the most important is interoperability - so everyone can use what they like the most
<FromGitter>
<j8r> Here people have the choice over Gitter, IRC and Matrix - that's great
<FromGitter>
<j8r> If people like Slack, why not adding support to it?

<stronny> curiously nobody yet suggested to develop a new system in Crystal =)
<FromGitter>
<j8r> it was talked about developing a matrix server, but lots of work
<FromGitter>
<asterite> 10k limit of what? Is it history?
<FromGitter>
<dscottboggs_gitlab> +1 for zulip. I also agree gitter is pretty terrible. There's also a Crystal telegram group, but it's not very active

<FromGitter>
<alehander92> yes, i think history
<FromGitter>
<alehander92> for unpaid plans: it might've been changed though
<FromGitter>
<alehander92> for paid i think its probably unlimited
<FromGitter>
<alehander92> but otherwise slack is good yeah
<FromGitter>
<alehander92> 10k for unpaid*
<FromGitter>
<alehander92> Your workspace is using the free version of Slack. ⏎ With 10k searchable messages, 10 apps and integrations, 1-to-1 video calls, and two-factor authentication, the free version gives your team access to Slack’s basic features.
<FromGitter>
<stronny> gitter occasionally pops up even in plain google
<FromGitter>
<dscottboggs_gitlab> see, like even the replies system is bad
<FromGitter>
<stronny> IRC doesn't have even that
<FromGitter>
<stronny> still in use widely
<FromGitter>
<meltheadorable> gitter might be the best of a lot of bad options — mattermost and rocket chat are super buggy, matrix has terrible ux, irc is the actual worst chat platform still in widespread use, zulip is a mess, slack’s free tier is super limiting and its paid tier is unrealistic — discord is okay, but not really meant for this sort of thing
<FromGitter>
<stronny> back to mailing lists then?
<FromGitter>
<meltheadorable> for now, maybe so
<FromGitter>
<meltheadorable> but no they are actually worse than IRC
<FromGitter>
<meltheadorable> and thats hard to pull off
<FromGitter>
<stronny> even worse would be some kind of a php-bb forum with a *rad* skin
<FromGitter>
<stronny> and worse still would be... a guestbook
<FromGitter>
<meltheadorable> i would take php-bb forums over mailing lists and irc
<FromGitter>
<stronny> worthy conteder would also be a myspace page
<FromGitter>
<dscottboggs_gitlab> > mattermost and rocket chat are super buggy ⏎ ⏎ are they?
<FromGitter>
<dscottboggs_gitlab> > a myspace page ⏎ ⏎ 😂
<FromGitter>
<stronny> little experience with rocket, no idea wrt mattermost at all

<meltheadorable> @dscottboggs_gitlab yeah they are idk if you were genuinely asking or arguing with me, but they are both in pretty rough shape, really sloppy with basic features missing or unreliable, like its possible to end up in a state where people can no longer leave teams or channels in Mattermost without the intervention of an admin, rocket chat is a different beast and its possible it has gotten better recently,
<FromGitter>
... its been a while since i’ve seen anyone trying to use it, but that almost says enough right there sadly
<FromGitter>
<kalinon> I deployed rocketchat at my company its been running strong for over a year now. No issues.
