hi
<yaswanth>
I am working on Cubie with Android. Can anyone tell me about accessing GPIOs in Java/Python?
<yaswanth>
Googling online leads to deadends

uff
<FR^2>
yaswanth: I think you'll have to apply some low-level patches to the kernel used by android to access any hardware directly

<yaswanth>
Just an update: I was able to SSH into android, get into root and was able to read gpio labels
<yaswanth>
For this I had to install the Super User App to get it going till here
<yaswanth>
I am still not able to figure out if I can read the data from GPIO
<yaswanth>
Since I am able to read it as root, I was thinking there should be a way where a javalib is available to access these GPIOs

yaswanth: wow.
<yaswanth>
Is that too much to ask?
<FR^2>
yaswanth: "Wow!" in the sense of "Wow, you got that far!"
<yaswanth>
lol. Thanks :)
<yaswanth>
Surprised this info isn't available anywhere
<FR^2>
yaswanth: I'm not sure if there's any standard library for that. But if you manage to access the signals from command line, the rest shouldn't be a problem
<yaswanth>
it shouldn't be a problem true, but was wondering if Android's app system will let me write to these 'files'
<FR^2>
Not sure... I'm far from such things... How do you manage the access? Are there devices? Or is it via proc or sysfs or something?
<yaswanth>
Did an ssh to android on cubie
<yaswanth>
installed super user app
<yaswanth>
su - got me into root
<yaswanth>
and from there on it was in /sys/class/gpio
<Grogdor>
finally got a proper powered usb hub, plug in rtl-sdr, fire up dump1090... no planes, anywhere... fml

someone here to get talk about cubieboard 2 ?
<FR^2>
Don't ask to ask, just ask (as clearly as possible) then wait - patience is mandatory :)
<Thhunder>
ok :) i had an 2,5" s-ata hdd on my cubieboard and powered up over the 3,5 jack with 2,5A @ 5V sometimes it crashes or hang up so if i power up my cubie2 over the 3,5 jack + usb-otg i have no problem with crashes so is there a reason why or what hapend?

<grog>
hard drives pull a lot of power. cubieboards are really finicky about power.
<grog>
more amps, more filter caps, more powered usb hubs
<grog>
im not sure if powering over the jack and usb at the same time is a good idea

grog, it was my option to stop the crashes... because if i had some power peaks it seems like to be there is a failure if the voltage gets under x volt i think i need to check it but i haven't the corret tools to test it out :(

<grog>
well yeah, that's exactly what happens
<grog>
cheap power supplies have too much noise/ripple, poor regulation or simply not enough juice

ive gone through three USB hubs and five different PSUs to make my cubieboard A10 work reliably
<grog>
but im currently in asia, so finding quality electronics is a challenge

so is it not an good option to power it up over 3,5 jack + usb-otg? on my "stress-tests" it was my best choice to hold it in a stable state so it does not freeze or hangup anyway so it runs stable the last 4 days before i did that i had 3 - 5 hours and on some aktivitys it was down

<grog>
dunno man, would hafta look at the circuit diagram, but there's a good chance those two power supplies get connected in parallel along the line
<grog>
which is kinda "good" because the board has more/stable power, but it's kinda messy because power supplies generally shouldn't be wired like that
<grog>
might fry something, eventually
<grog>
probably one of the power supplies, and maybe take the board with it
<grog>
for the cost of a decent $10 power brick, i'd 'do it right' if possible
<grog>
just my opinion :)

for me there is no extra powersuply i have one for the 3,5 jack and for the usb-otg i use my router to give there a bit power to hold it in an stable state, for now it works but i understand it is not the best option so i need a better powersuply for my cubie i think?
