<noodlesz>
I have a table of addresss, I want to associated one address to a person as home, another address as work, another address as mailing, etc. This old post (used to be) is exactly what I'm trying to achieve but it appears to no longer work.
<noodlesz>
so just make a bunch of tables and have a couple of has 1, ...
<onewheelskyward>
I'd either go that way or have WorkAddress and HomeAddress that extend Address, that way you can maintain the data structure and it's a bit more clean than having a bunch of optional relationships that aren't optional at all.
<onewheelskyward>
Oh wait, what I just described is single-table inheritance. :)
<noodlesz>
haha okay I was a little confused
<onewheelskyward>
Sorry, I spoke before reading. :)
<noodlesz>
okay this may be a problem. Just looking at the data structure that was created
<noodlesz>
the addresses table has a person_id field
<noodlesz>
where as any single address can belong to several people
<noodlesz>
onewheelskyward, could you take a guess as to what is invalid about the answer from stackoverflow?
<onewheelskyward>
Sounds like you got your relations backwards.
<noodlesz>
ahhh
<noodlesz>
confusing, think i got it. Thank you onewheelskyward
<onewheelskyward>
excellent!
