<Solitary> what happened with your old shitty G300?
_whitelogger has joined #huawei-g300
<luca020400> Solitary: never owned one, just the Y300
<luca020400> But it's laying in my drawer
<luca020400> Along another dozen of phones...
<Solitary> ah, right :) Y300 was newer model, right?
<luca020400> yeah
<Solitary> was it also terrible? :D
<luca020400> sure was
<Solitary> what are you currently using?
<luca020400> pixel 5
<luca020400> but asus also gave me a rog 3, and I play there
<Solitary> Pixel 5, isnt that the model that scaled back the specs?
<luca020400> yep
<Solitary> asus gave it to you? like reviews and stuff?
<luca020400> actually to work on it, doing aosp bringup on the bright side, but most of the times I just tell them they're doing a shitty job at security :)
<Solitary> is that a hobby or are there actually money in that?
<Solitary> I am totally out of the loop on android development and how most brands handle that
<luca020400> hobby, I work elsewher
<luca020400> but I hope to get into it seriously
<Solitary> I remember that Asus did drop their nonsense and started using more cleaner Android
<luca020400> no one pays anyone currently
<luca020400> yep, it's been a hell of work from the global pr guy
<luca020400> and we /external/ developers backed him
<luca020400> along the ride
<Solitary> who is currently giving the best Android "distro"?
<Solitary> I mean past the Google with the stock android on pixel
<luca020400> aside google, asus is rather good
<luca020400> the only one I could afford using
<luca020400> for more than a month
<Solitary> what about Samsung?
<luca020400> probably also sony
<luca020400> I've used their old stuff and it was horrible
<Solitary> samsung? yea, I mean the current one
<luca020400> Nowdays things have changed, but I haven't tried
<Solitary> I have S10+, I like it, but I wonder how it compares
<luca020400> s10+ should be okish
<luca020400> it has the one ui 2.something right?
<Solitary> I cant complain
<Solitary> 3.0 actually
<luca020400> yeah nice
<Solitary> Android 11 few weeks ago
<luca020400> they got better
<Solitary> oh yea, definitely
<Solitary> from what I heard and read, they got their shit together quite well... even the midrange phones seem decent
<Solitary> bought my mother A50
<luca020400> oh yeah they're quite nice along the whole range
<luca020400> a lot of friends got the new a** models
<Solitary> and if I remember correctly, lot of phones should get one more Android version during their lifetime support
<luca020400> I used my best friend's just to see how it went, and I couldn't complain ( didn't even know the price so \o/ )
<Solitary> I think I started with Android 9 on this phone, and I should get Android 12 sometime next year I believe
<luca020400> I think now they get 2 updates
<luca020400> and 3 or 4 for high end
<Solitary> they had 2, now should get 3
<luca020400> still people won't update
<Solitary> I am fairly certain it goes even past the highend
<Solitary> the A models might be there too
<Solitary> of course they will
<luca020400> I dunno, I read the news but didn't look at any "list"
<Solitary> I read it, but has been sometime
<luca020400> As long as they don't force A/B updates I don't see most users doing them
<Solitary> what is that?
<luca020400> online updates, read only partitions are duplicated
<luca020400> so android itself installs the new version on the other slot
<luca020400> without a reboot to recovery
<luca020400> usually it's automatic in background
<Solitary> I am not sure, it downloads the update package, I reboot, it starts installing, takes a minute or two depending on size, boots into the system and does app optimizations and stuff, and notifies you in the end it is fully done
<Solitary> what would be so bad about the A/B?
<luca020400> doesn't reboot, it's installed while you're using the phone, apps are optimized as well along the way
<luca020400> in the end you get a notification with "reboot"
<luca020400> and you're done
<Solitary> oh, I do have to reboot after it downloads it
<Solitary> and thats when it updates the system and does the optimizations once you are back in
<luca020400> yep, the new method does it while you can use the phone
<Solitary> but why wouldnt people update?
<Solitary> you get notification asking you what to do with the update
<Solitary> do people ignore it?
<luca020400> yes
<Solitary> because they dont know what it is?
<luca020400> most of the times
<Solitary> well my mother called me and asked, told her to accept it
<Solitary> so I think she is updated
<luca020400> I used to see constant "download update" notifications on friend's phones
<Solitary> that is silly
