<ar-rahman> is the USB external HDD bug fixed? When booted with external HDD plugged-in the board was not recognizing it and was freezing without SSH access
<ar-rahman> are those problems still there or did they have been fixed?
<ar-rahman> LAN + HDD was problematic

<xdarklight> ar-rahman: Hi. USB not being recognized is unfortunately still an issue. any LAN issues should be fixed with Linux 5.8
<ar-rahman> hi xdarklight
<ar-rahman> thank you for your quick answer
<ar-rahman> I don't understand why it is still not working for many years... can't the code for linux 3.1 just be taken and injected for the HDD and LAN part?
<ar-rahman> USB and LAN are vital for a reliable headless server
<xdarklight> the answer for that is: no it can't for the mainline Linux kernel. Amlogic has hacked a lot of things throughout the whole kernel and those would be rejected by the maintainers of each subsystem. so it's about finding out *why* things are not working and how to properly integrate them into the mainline kernel
<xdarklight> also documentation is rare, so it's not an easy task to see why something is not working

<ar-rahman_> xdarklight: Thank you for your insight
<ar-rahman_> So what you are saying is that some crappy developers did shit code back then
<ar-rahman_> and then some more mastery one's saw that and they vomitted?

<xdarklight> ar-rahman_: their goal back then was to just make it work when products (with the Amlogic S805 SoC) were shipped. looking at it in that way they have succeeded. but looking at it from a 2020 kernel developer perspective it's still very hard to make everything work
<ar-rahman_> Alright so they achieved their own personal goal but didn't do it in a way for the greater common good :D
<xdarklight> yes, unfortunately
<ar-rahman_> damn that's capitalism right there :D

<spikerguy> Hello Everyone, I see all senior developers here :D Great place to learn more about kernel developement.
<spikerguy> I cannot see Christian Hewitt here, I hope he is fine as I didn't get any reply from him since sometime now.

<spikerguy> I have few Amlogic SBC which I have used and added its support to Manjaro ARM Project. I am having hard time with S922X-H Used in Beelink GT King PRo and GS King X. I hope Devs are aware of the Kernel panic while transfering files
