<Wizzup> install linux! :)
<Wizzup> (or rather, something other than chromeos)
<Wizzup> I am using the same laptop right now - assuming you mean http://linux-exynos.org/wiki/Samsung_Chromebook_2_XE503C32
<zookolaptop> yep! That's the one.
<zookolaptop> What version of Linux do you run on it?
<javier__> zookolaptop: anything since v4.1 should be good
<javier__> zookolaptop: I would suggest v4.4 and please let me know if you have any issues
<javier__> krzk: I guess you stopped testing my max77686 series due the bug in patch 04/10?
<javier__> sorry about that, I triple check my patches before posting but still I manage to miss stupid errors...
<zookolaptop> javier__: what distro?
<javier__> zookolaptop: any ARMv7 rootfs should be fine
<javier__> zookolaptop: this may be interesting to you btw http://blogs.s-osg.org/install-linux-mainline-kernel-distro-exynos-chromebooks/
<zookolaptop> javier__: I think I'll probably need a ...
<zookolaptop> javier__: I was about to ask for a recipe to follow. :-) Thanks.
<javier__> zookolaptop: yw, that explains just one possible approach. Another is to install a mainline u-boot
<javier__> that's what I do btw since allows me to load kernels over tftp
<zookolaptop> I'd probably be fine installing with the help of a USB key at first, and then self-compiling anytime I need to upgrade the kernel...
<zookolaptop> Still trying to understand what the actual sequence of steps are in http://blogs.s-osg.org/install-linux-mainline-kernel-distro-exynos-chromebooks/
<zookolaptop> Hm, maybe I could just boot the linux distro from USB.
<javier__> zookolaptop: that explains how to install a signed FIT image (that bundles the kernel and DTB) in the eMMC and the rootfs in an eMMC partition
<javier__> zookolaptop: yes you could, just follow that post and use a bootable media instead of eMMC
<krzk> javier__: yeah, I stopped. After fixing this, the rest of patches does not apply
<krzk> javier__: so it would require a little bit of effort :)
<zookolaptop> javier__: it needs to be signed by a google developer key?
<javier__> krzk: no worries, I'm hesitant about re-spining a v3 and spam too much :)
<javier__> zookolaptop: yes but most distro has packages to allow you sign your images
<javier__> if the chromebook is in developer mode you can use that key
<javier__> zookolaptop: that's another advantage of chain loading a mainline u-boot btw, you don't need signed kernels
<javier__> only the u-boot image has to be signed
<javier__> zookolaptop: I've written another post explaining how to install a mainline u-boot on a bootable media
<javier__> but have not been published yet
<javier__> krzk: I really appreciate your detailed review btw
<javier__> zookolaptop: I'm going to sleep now but feel free to ask questions if you have and I can answer tomorrow
<javier__> or others in the channel ;)
<krzk> javier__: you're welcome :), I'll wait with testing of the rest for v3
<krzk> javier__: it is merge window so unlikely that this will be applied
<javier__> krzk: indeed, there is no rush
<javier__> bye!
<zookolaptop> Distros will let me use their private keys to sign arbitrary images of my choice
<zookolaptop> ?

<Wizzup> zookolaptop: you can use the developer keys to sign images
<Wizzup> you just need to put the chromebook in dev mode
<Wizzup> ah, as javier said.
