mszyprow: u-boot on my peach pi is 2020.01-rc3 and not 2020.04
<mszyprow>
mps: good to know that such recent uboot still works on chromebooks :)
<mszyprow>
mps: maybe I will check it if I have too much free time ;)
<mszyprow>
mps: does the kernel config change helped to boot v5.9?
<mps>
mszyprow: just installing it, will know in few minutes
<mps>
mszyprow: no, even with CONFIG_THUMB2_KERNEL=y removed it doesn't boot though it now goes little further

mszyprow: one note about u-boot, I use extlinux.conf (not boot.scr) for it to have numerical boot menu, and it doesn't recognize 'FDTDIR' directive correctly
<mps>
I must specify dtb file with 'FDT /dtbs-5.9.1-2-peach/exynos5800-peach-pi.dtb'
<mps>
mszyprow: in a few hours (when finish some $day_job tasks) I will start with exynos_defconfig and see what will happen

mszyprow: 5.9.1 boots and works now. I should run 'make listnewconfig' on every major kernel build
<mszyprow>
mps: while config did you miss?
<mps>
I used config from 5.7 and on it build 5.8 and 5.9, and that didn't worked
<mszyprow>
mps: btw, I didn't know about listnewconfig target
<mszyprow>
mps: I always use make olddefconfig when I switch between releases and want to preserve modified .config
<mps>
mszyprow: 'make help' will tell
<mps>
also helpnewconfig, more helpful
<mps>
on peach pi now when kernel 5.9 works I made new u-boot (2020.10) but machine says it can't boot from external devices (mmc in this case)
<mps>
I'm sure that I enabled that and it worked when I recreated filesystem and tested boot from external devices
<mps>
but looks like it after some time it 'reset' this (but boot fine from internal emmc)
<mps>
cumbersome solution is to backup emmc, boot in chromeos recovery, reenable boot from external devices, restore to emmc
<mps>
but, I hope someone know 'trick' how to enable boot from external devices from linux
