<rperier> hi all

<tedo> Hello, i have a question how to diagnose boot problems. I have a http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Newsmy_CarPad_NU3001 that i can flash via the rkBatchTool. The image (Android) starts sucessfully. But when i disconnect the power and reconnect it, the devica always stays in MaskRom mode (blue square).
<tedo> And when i load the loader RK3188Loader(L)_V2.19.bin into the RAM at address 0 and click EraseIDB in RKAndroidTool v1.37 the device boots.

<rperier> mmind00: Mark Yao maintains drm/rockchip, right ?
<mmind00> rperier: yep
<rperier> even if it is the maintainer, when he sends patches to the ML, he needs at least one "Reviewed-by" or at least an ack before sending these changes to Dave, right ?
<rperier> s/it/he/
<mmind00> rperier: not really ... Reviews and Acks are just the "icing on the cake" so to speak
<mmind00> especially when you are the person having the deepest insight (like Mark for the drm)
naobsd has joined #linux-rockchip
<rperier> I don't say that Mark sends wrong patches or so (he works for rockchip... so he knows this part better than anyone else), I was just wondering about the process itself in the case like this one :)
<rperier> but you already answered
<rperier> Reviews and Acks are just the "icing on the cake" --> yes and no, even if something is technically right, reviews and feedbacks are very important , like code review by another programmer in general ;)
<mmind00> rperier: I didn't assume this at all :-) ... deciding about merging patches/pull request is always a task for the maintainer above (Dave in this case), Reviews and are therefore just indications that the change is correct [if it isn't obvious from the patch itself]
<mmind00> and an Ack is not supposed to be used when "reviewing" patches ... it's for the case that a change touches another maintainers area [see Rob Acking my vendor-prefix]
<rperier> no, it was more about the review process. If I don't write a prose per week, I am sick :p
<rperier> :D

<rperier> chromebook users: do you have /boot/vmlinuz on chromeos ? I am using this howto https://wiki.debian.org/InstallingDebianOn/Asus/C201#Installing_to_an_SD_card_using_the_ChromeOS_kernel , problem is that there are no /boot/vmlinuz :D
<rperier> well, I will build the chrome os kernel I think, before switching to mainline
GTRsdk has joined #linux-rockchip
<mmind00> rperier: nope, there doesn't seem to exist this anymore (at least it wasn't on my jerry)
<rperier> apparently I just need "vmlinuz.signed" which seems to be generated by vbutil_kernel
<rperier> can could confirm that you did use a technic like this one to be able to boot your chromebook from sdcard ?
<rperier> (as you have a developer mode... I prefer ask just in case)
<rperier> s/mode/model/
<amstan> rperier: yep, it's similar
<amstan> rperier: here's the archlinux guide too: http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv7/rockchip/hisense-chromebook-c11
<rperier> as an arch user, perhaps I will try archlinux instead... :D
<amstan> rperier: then you might be interested in this too: https://github.com/archlinuxarm/PKGBUILDs/blob/master/core/linux-veyron/PKGBUILD#L94
<amstan> rperier: works pretty decent on the chromebook flip(minnie)
<rperier> hey cool, thanks for your feedbacks. putting archlinux on it looks faster than debian. Well as a first hacking experience on chromebook, I will first switch to a standalone linux distro (arch I think) with a chromeos kernel...then I will use a mainline kernel and to finish meta-rockchip
<rperier> (in order words: step per step)
<amstan> rperier: if you're interested mainline on arch i suggest joining #archlinux-arm, leming might want to do that at some point
<rperier> in fact I contribute to mainline and I maintain "meta-rockchip" (i.e yocto for rockchip) in the same time, so I use yocto/oe to cross build my distro and my kernel usually . I already have everything I need to build a mainline kernel :)
<rperier> however, that's good to know anyway
<rperier> mhhh perhaps I will look at your PKGBUILDS because on some parts a PKGBUILD and a recipe is similar. It might be interesting for yocto (because I will need to write a recipe and change some stuff in order to build a kernel for chromebooks)
<mmind00> rperier: just for completenes sake, the generic instructions on how to build a new jerry-kernel were also in my g+ post: https://plus.google.com/u/0/+HeikoSt%C3%BCbner_x/posts/YxtKFJaGiv6
<mmind00> which is similar to what the arch PKGBUILD does that amstan referenced

<tlwoerner> rperier: thanks for you last email. i've noticed that the nand partitions on a device depend on what i last flashed using the upgrade_tool with images downloaded from http://en.t-firefly.com/en/firenow/firefly_rk3288/download/
<tlwoerner> for example the android image creates... 14 partitions, but the ubuntu image has just a handful (5)
<tlwoerner> where does the code for the "Loader Mode" live? is it possible to accidentally erase it using some any of the flash tools?
