Random thoughts. The Asus C100 is a touchscreen Chromebook running on the RK3288. Performance is surprisingly good. The standard trusty XFCE environment works well in crouton with no hardware problems. It might be fun to use this to build for smaller boards like Firefly or even RPi.

hi guys!
<zhecka>
who know where is current linux-rockchip 3.10 git repo ? many old repos and no one current
<zhecka>
i don't know where to get latest rk3188.dts for rk3188t cpu and board for it

maz__: any idea for replace old warmlamp 3.0.36+ for rk3188t boards ?
<maz__>
zhecka: no, but I can now see why you consider 3.10 as being current :-(
<maz__>
I suspect that code has never been mainlined.
<zhecka>
maz__: i don't have any idea how use any newest kernel without 3188.dtb :(
JohnDoe_71Rus has joined #linux-rockchip
<zhecka>
yesterday i run mackodi at 3.0.36+, but many problems with mali and mali_drm makes me crazy
<zhecka>
all vendors support only new rk3288 and higher
<mmind00>
maz__: correct, zhecka is talking about the vendor kernels for those old socs from way before Rockchip got interesting in mainline
<zhecka>
and i'm not sure about mainline 4.4rc5, but without testing lower kernels, i cannot get any positive result with newest
<zhecka>
o! mmind :) you have a good repo ;) i like it
<mmind00>
zhecka: you won't have much fun with using mainline kernels on rk3188 (and before) on mobile devices anyway
<zhecka>
i dont't need mobile device support, i need work tv stick with some features
<zhecka>
radxa removes any repo with worked examples for rk3188 and theirs officially supported kernel don't have btd files for rk3188
<zhecka>
ok. i'm get rk3188.dts(dtb) from slitaz example, but when i look to code, many features just disabled for backward capability
<afaerber>
zhecka: you don't need rk3188.dtb and there is an rk3188.dtsi in mainline - what you need is rk3188-yourdevice.dts and you can try writing that yourself, compile it to dtb, test it and submit it to mainline ;)
<zhecka>
afaerber: nice joke man :)
* afaerber
is not joking, I have done that for Exynos and other ARM devices.
<zhecka>
but using for development tv stick without any debug features the same as search a black cat in dark room
<afaerber>
earlyprintk is good first step, if you can get access to a serial console
<afaerber>
I got the Spring Chromebook working without uart access :)
<zhecka>
:)
<zhecka>
i want chromebook too ;) but ...

good news :) i got dts for radxa rock lite from radxa support :) wow :)
<mmind00>
afaerber: probably not ... the "vendor"-dts looks vastly different
<afaerber>
mmind00: does that matter? it needs to match the tree it's used with - vendor dts with mainline is bound to fail, no?
<mmind00>
afaerber: correct ... but with his rk3188 hdmi-stick (without uart?) he won't have much fun with mainline

<mmind00>
afaerber: yes, but at the moment rk3288-only
<afaerber>
ah okay
<mmind00>
afaerber: crtc IPs are similar, outputs (hdmi, etc) are quite different and of course rk3188 don't have iommus which the driver currently relies on
<afaerber>
mmind00: btw, have you ever tried booting with modules and initrd?
<afaerber>
as opposed to some built-in defconfig
<mmind00>
afaerber: nope, especially as no boot method I currently use, allows sending a separate initrd
<afaerber>
mmind00: I am using the new v2015.10 U-Boot from SD card

<afaerber>
unfortunately my openSUSE kernel gets stuck on boot (reboots after 90 seconds) and I haven't got to recompiling our kernel with a Rockchip earlyprintk yet
<afaerber>
was wondering whether maybe some of module declaration or something might be missing somewhere
<afaerber>
already tried a dracut no-host initrd (with all drivers included)

sjoerd: in your u-boot ethernet is supposed to work only with the rock2 or with the firefly too ? (unable to ping from my firefly here..)
<mmind00>
rperier: try checking if CONFIG_PHY_REALTEK is set
<rperier>
you mean that the phy is actually handled by a generic phy driver ? (I have a working autonego here)
<rperier>
lookinh
<rperier>
looking*
<mmind00>
I don't know enough about that, but at least there is a driver for the RTL8211E phy in the uboot sources
<rperier>
the symbol is not set
<mmind00>
the phy ic seems to be different between rock2 and firefly, so there might be behaviour-differences here
<rperier>
I see, good catch

huh. bad news :( from 3.18.11 removed support for my rtl8723bs. oooops
<zhecka>
mmind00: what about porting mali drivers to old 3.0.36+ ? this is possible ?
<zhecka>
afaerber: you say about u-boot 2015.10 ? what is it ?
<afaerber>
zhecka: that's the latest stable upstream release - check its doc/README.rockchip for more info on what it does and doesn't do
<afaerber>
v2016.01-rc1 was having issues with SPL size

rperier: afaik it should work on firefly, but there might be differences
<sjoerd>
mmind00: u-boot only prods the mac, not the phy though
<rperier>
perhaps that we have not the same hw revision or something...
<rperier>
that's "2014.09.30" here
<sjoerd>
rperier: When i say should, i mean i never tested it but judging by the devicetree they're hooked up the same way
<sjoerd>
rperier: can you see packets going out but not in or ?
<sjoerd>
e.g. what happens when you run dhcp in u-boot
<rperier>
nothing is going out
<rperier>
I started wireshark on my ethernet interface on my laptop (which is directly connected to the board)
<sjoerd>
Oh
<sjoerd>
I'd recommend going via a switch just to be sure
<sjoerd>
Does u-boot see it negotiate?
<rperier>
the link is detected, the speed is the right one, and the driver seems to detect the autonego... when I ping form the board I see leds blicking but I receive nothing on the other side
<rperier>
yes it does
<rperier>
I have "speed 100, full duplex" here
<sjoerd>
ok so something works ;)
<sjoerd>
now i wonder if that branch did have the patch to fix the clock
<sjoerd>
which exact branch did you use ?
<sjoerd>
(sorry i made a mess of them)
<rperier>
I used the branch "combined/u-boot-radxa-rock-2"
<rperier>
even if the name suggests that it is for the rock2, I have checked that some stuffs were supposed to work on the firefly, but perhaps that I was wrong :)
<rperier>
except this point, the rest seems to work fine :)
<sjoerd>
heh yeah that's the branch we use for a project of ours
<sjoerd>
that does have the code to switch the clock speed
<sjoerd>
Could you do two things, add a printf in drivers/net/gmac_rk3288.c -- gmac_rk3288_started and print the clk setting it ends up using
<sjoerd>
should be GMAC_CLK_SEL_25M for 100mbit/s
<sjoerd>
and also try a switch inbetween, i'm always wary about cross-links

sjoerd: I get GMAC_CLK_SEL_25M for 100mbit/s , yes...
<rperier>
I mean that's the right rate
<rperier>
mhhh interesting...
<rperier>
so autonego is working, mdio is working too because u-boot see the link... so perhaps that something about pinmux for rgmii is wrong...
<rperier>
weird :/
zhecka has quit [Quit: Page closed]
jas-hacks1 has left #linux-rockchip [#linux-rockchip]
<sjoerd>
could be, but should be the same for both firefly and rock
<sjoerd>
rperier: well if that clock setting isn't applied the mac won't get packets in and out
<sjoerd>
and i'm really wary of cross-links from board to laptop (in principle it should work, but i turst using switches more just to rule out some variables)
