<JPEW> Hello, I submitted a patch to the ASUS tinkerboard device tree and it doesn't look like it's gotten merged... not sure if I just can't find it or I'm looking in the wrong place

<cristian_c> inode: I was trying to flash firmware completely. Very strange behaviour: yesterday I've plugged off and on usb cable, and parameter+bootloader was properly flashed
<cristian_c> *were
<cristian_c> inode: this way, flash tools become to allow partitions flashing again. Strangely, when I tried to flash boot partition, I've got erros, upgrade_tool returned 'compare' message error
<cristian_c> and then repeating the boot flashing, I got 'check paramter' error message
<cristian_c> but when I flashed parsmeter again and then tried toflash boot partition, I got 'compare' error again
<cristian_c> after I tflashed parameter, when I tried to flash misc partition (0x2000), I got OK result
<cristian_c> so, I don't know why boot (0x8000) and other partitions faiod to flash (img files are smaller than hex sizes in parameter file, it seems)
<cristian_c> inode: today I was going to investigste this strange behaviour, and I connected rk3188 to usb port
<cristian_c> inode: unfortunately, lsusb doesn't detect the device anymore and I don't know why, yesterday it was properly detdcted
<cristian_c> and this is a second odd behaviour, that I can't explain
<cristian_c> any ideas?

<inode> cristian_c: are you aware of the 0x2000 offset in addresses between maskrom and rockusb modes?
<inode> and i would guess that your device is no longer detected over usb because you overwrote the loader at some point
<inode> so you will probably need to enter maskrom mode by depriving the soc of boot media - boot without an sd card and pull the flash chip clock to ground and then remove the connection to ground once you've confirmed you're in mask rom mode and rewrite the loader and remaining firmware
<cristian_c> inode: when I flashed loader, parameter and other partitions, I've not set a particul address
<cristian_c> inode: the address values are those written in parameter file
<cristian_c> inode: ok, but I always don't put sd-cards into the device
<cristian_c> inode: there are some points which I'd like to be explained: 1) the nand/flash chip has very small pins and wires usually are much more bigger than them, 2) should the short-circuit between clock and ground pins made when usb connection is active?
<cristian_c> 3) of course, yes, I suppose. And then short.circuit has to be removed when mask rom is confirmed (with usb connection always active)?

<inode> cristian_c: 1. take strands of the wire instead if the wire you have available is too large in diameter for the flash chip pin/pad size
<inode> in some cases clock and ground might be adjacent and you can bridge across them easily without jumper wire
<inode> 2. make the connection before applying power and booting up
<inode> 3. yes, once you can see you're in mask rom mode - removing the connection should allow the flash chip to receive the clock signal so the soc can communicate with it as usual
<cristian_c> inode: ok, understaood
<inode> it might be a good idea to install a switch for this purpose :)
