wens: sorry for asking too many question, I just don't seem to have a good understanding here about what exactly you are doing with your device :)
<ssvb>
wens: one theoretical possibility could be also some kind of a recent u-boot regression, making it unbootable (if you are using a master branch)

ssvb: re-sent fel v2. previously, I missed to mark it as v2.
<ssvb>
vishnup: oh, thanks, it was not necessary
<vishnup>
ssvb: I thought somebody might miss it :)
<wens>
ssvb: it was half broken, flickering and stuff
<wens>
ssvb: i plan to get a new one though
<ssvb>
wens: ok, I see
<ssvb>
wens: a funny thing is that buying an lcd as a spare part might cost more than buying the whole tablet itself

<libv>
even from .cn?
<ssvb>
libv: that's the ips lcd panel from ipad :) and the whole tablet may be sold very cheap if it was used or sold as a part of some "getting rid of the inventory" campaign
<ssvb>
libv: one could get it for 79 euro a few months ago there
<ssvb>
libv: and lucky guys living in the US could even buy this tablet for just 50$ as a part of a newegg sale, but this did not last long
<libv>
ebay.de seems to turn these up regularly
<libv>
but that does not help wens either

<ssvb>
the ebay.de offers are usually used/refurbished and not exactly cheap, not surprising for an old tablet model that is not manufactured anymore

wens: have you figured out what's wrong with u-boot?
<gzamboni>
ssvb, wens i confirm that to make my lcd to work with olinuxino A20 micro and lime with the lcd from olimex, i had to compile uboot with CONFIG_OLD_SUNXI_KERNEL_COMPAT=y once to make the lcd work

<ssvb>
gzamboni: I think this even does not have any effect for A31
<gzamboni>
ok
<gzamboni>
whats strange is once the new hardware booted with CONFIG_OLD_SUNXI_KERNEL_COMPAT enabled, you can compile without it and it works
<ssvb>
gzamboni: did you encounter this particular problem more than once?
<wens>
ssvb: nope
<ssvb>
gzamboni: because you know, it is always possible to compile u-boot, but write a stale blob from the previous build to the sd card or make a similar silly mistake
<wens>
the lcd is not so easy to disassemble imo
<wens>
it seems either stuck to the glass and touchpanel, or has some hidden latches
<wens>
and there's also the problem of sourcing the correct part

<ssvb>
yeah, just getting another tablet with a working lcd might be easier and not necessarily more expensive
<ssvb>
wens: and what about a fel tool test on a80? of course if you have a bit of spare time for this
IgorPecovnik has quit [Client Quit]
<wens>
i need to dig out a boot0 binary for that
<wens>
i cleaned out all my sdk files because i ran out of disk space

wens: does anyone offer sd card images for your a80 board?
<ssvb>
wens: the boot0 could be extracted from it
<ssvb>
wens: we even could enhance the fel tool to do this automatically and also accept raw sd card images
<wens>
don't think so
<ssvb>
wens: can you at least try "./fel -v spl bin/fel-sdboot.sunxi" from my a80 branch and paste the output?
<ssvb>
this can help to get some information about the MMU setup
