<parabyte> I managed to extract the mmc from my h3 android board
<parabyte> now im kinda lost
<parabyte> i used extract-dtb and it spat out 3 files anyone know?

<parabyte> sorry my drive crashed!
<libv> as in harddisk died?
<parabyte> as i was saying i have h3 firmware now extracted from the emmc device, iv split up the image into 15 partitions from the information mmc part gave me
<parabyte> libv, yup
<parabyte> im using a old laptop
<parabyte> on borrowed time!
<parabyte> fortunately for me /home is nfs mounted
<libv> ah, good
<bauen1> this is your daily PSA: remember to do your backups (and unless you test them you don't have backups)
<parabyte> i used this extract-dtb utility and it gave me these 3 files from what i believe is the kernel partition
<parabyte> 00_kernel and 01_dtbdump*dtb and 02_dtbdump*dtb
<parabyte> um im not entirely sure what to do now!
<parabyte> i kinda hit a wall! and unsure what documentation to read
<parabyte> so far iv compiled u-boot used that to grab the raw data off the emmc and iv used fatwrite to put that on a removable sdcard
<parabyte> got all that onto my laptop cat the whole lot together in the correct order
<parabyte> then i used dd to split up that file into partition data i got from mmc part
[TheBug] has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
<parabyte> iv established that 1 of the paritions is uboot config data and two 16mb paritions are kernel
<parabyte> thats where i am so far

<apritzel> parabyte: there is not too much information in those Android images
<apritzel> what are you actually still missing?
<apritzel> you can probably find the GPIOs and pins used for WiFi and BT (if your box has that)
<apritzel> and maybe some Ethernet bits
<apritzel> parabyte: for a start I would decompile the DTBs: dtc <your.dtb> -o <your.dts>
<apritzel> parabyte: and since this is an H3(?) box, it might be useful to hunt for some FEX file as well

<parabyte> apritzel, you think people would want to know about my adventures getting the data out the emmc?
elros1 has joined #linux-sunxi
<parabyte> apritzel, just out of interest is the 16mb kernel partitions ulimage data?
<parabyte> im just curious and if thats not the case, is there any good online documentation to explain what there partitions are all about
<parabyte> i seem to have 2 kernels
<parabyte> i believe a recovery mechanism of some kind?
<apritzel> parabyte: tbh: the kernel(s) on there and how Android is organised is not really interesting
<apritzel> parabyte: there is really a lot of outdated and misguided crap involved in this
<apritzel> parabyte: so if you want to waste your time learning how it's NOT done, feel free to explore this
<apritzel> parabyte: if I were you I would look at extracting the useful information (FEX, DTB), then create a mainline DTB
<apritzel> probably based on the Beelink one - but only copying nodes that you have verified
