<abeaumont> hannes: moving rsa code to its own library would also be a possibility, simpler and would solve the problem
<abeaumont> hadn't noticed that pbkdf and scrypt-kdf were depending on gmp :(

<hannes> abeaumont: that's what I meant with asymmetric crypto (RSA, DSA, DH)
<hannes> haesbaert: no edgar..
<abeaumont> oh, you're right, I only saw rsa on a quick look at the code
<abeaumont> I meant moving asymmetric crypto to its own library (instead of breaking it into 4-5 libs)
<hannes> but fortuna is the only piece which needs to know about mirage (and mirage knows about its API)
<abeaumont> I'm also concerned about the performance of scrypt-kdf lib, it's rather slow. It seems ocaml is unable to inline code and optimize out unnecessary bound-checking, not sure if there's a way I can better code for the compiler to do better optimizations
<abeaumont> hannes: oh, I see, then it makes sense

<apache3> how come pbkdf2 depends on gmp? :o
<abeaumont> apache3: it depends on nocrypto which depends on zarith which depends on gmp, that's why hannes wants to split nocrypto

<haesbaert> the projects page doesn't list "wanted projects" anymore ?
<haesbaert> or there is none /
<yomimono_> there is a "help wanted" tag somewhere
<haesbaert> ^^ still points to the old github one
<haesbaert> oh
<haesbaert> hmm can't find the help wanted
<haesbaert> oh have to click on each project
<haesbaert> will mirage take outreach applicants this year ?
<yomimono_> the "help needed" link is from the front page at canopy.mirage.io under the heading link to the projects page
<yomimono_> we should get the xen link changed, thanks for pointing it out :)
<yomimono_> also need to weed some out, some previously available mentors are no longer available sadly :(
<haesbaert> I'm available for mentoring
<yomimono_> maybe we'll get more ideas next week :D
<haesbaert> I mean, I have time, but I usually work on peripheral stuff in mirage
<yomimono_> that's where the fun contributions for new people are, though!
<haesbaert> I could use the help from someone on ssh I think
<yomimono_> (IMO, anyway)
<haesbaert> been thinking this for a while
<yomimono_> the funding for MirageOS outreachy interns has generally come from Xen project, so our ability to have them is dependent on that funding and how much competition there is for it with other Xen stuff
<yomimono_> (plus who applies, of course -- last round I don't think we had anyone who applied at all)
<haesbaert> hmm I know some people back home who might be interested, that's why I'm asking
<yomimono_> haesbaert: you should definitely put that up on canopy :D
<yomimono_> generally speaking the answer is "yes we're accepting outreachy interns", but it'll be dependent on who can mentor via the specific project
<haesbaert> I will, just need to think a bit more about it
mort___ has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
<yomimono_> and in negotiating with xen project for the funding if there's competition, there might be a question of whether the mentor can devote enough time, but it's only been competitive enough to get to that point once that i've been involved
<yomimono_> (although of course the mentor should be able to devote enough time ;) )
<haesbaert> enough time is 2h/day ?
<yomimono_> definitely
<haesbaert> I mean besides work and my work with the refugees I'm pretty much always free
<haesbaert> yeah then I'd qualify as enough
<yomimono_> the administrative overhead is super low, especially compared to GSoC, it's pretty much the amount of time you think you'd need to spend to keep someone on track
<haesbaert> should be able to work full-time (40 hours per week) from December 5, 2016 to March 6, 2017. As per www.gnome.org/outreachy, please do not apply if you will be in school full-time or will have another full-time job during most of the time between December 5, 2016 and March 6, 2016.
<haesbaert> this is something defined by the outreachy program, not by Xen, correct ?
<yomimono_> correct
fgimenez has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<yomimono_> they're pretty strict about it after having lots of people who were in school drop out halfway through their session
<haesbaert> makes sense, I just wonder if people who study 5h/day could qualify for that
<haesbaert> like uni students
<haesbaert> s/5/4
<yomimono_> they have some quite complicated and specific calculation
<yomimono_> probably buried on some wiki page somewhere
<yomimono_> I think it's half-time or less is OK? but definitely don't quote me on that

<haesbaert> ok but jan/fev is holidays anyway, so should work out
<haesbaert> I mean uni holidays in southern hemisphere
<yomimono_> ok, one xen author bothered, email confirmed, captcha solved, and finally I updated the link :P
<haesbaert> cool :D
