hannes changed the topic of #mirage to: bug cleaning day every first friday in month (14:00 UTC - late, next: 2nd Feb); MirageOS 3 is released, happy hacking!
<kensan>
Oh also: the entire muen.sk site is served by a MirageOS unikernel running on Muen :)

what other bootloaders are there for mirage except grub? i'm asking for adding support for qubes to that (so that the bootloader (running in the app-vm) can read+load the unikernel, and not dom0), so far they plan to use grub, and i think grub is overkill, as its its own OS…
<hannes>
h01ger: i suspect you'll get more answers on the mirageos-devel mailing list
<h01ger>
ah, pity, i hoped you could give me 1-2 names :)
<hannes>
i don't know much about grub and linux and booting -- on my FreeBSD using solo5 there's no grub involved anymore (bhyve + virtio + grub-bhyve + solo5-virtio there's grub) ;)
<h01ger>
i'm looking for alternatives to grub
<h01ger>
and i dont wanna boot linux, but mirage
<h01ger>
so solo5 might be the bootloader they are looking for. i thought so…
<reynir>
I don't think you need a bootloader for booting mirage in xen (qubes)
<hannes>
h01ger: as i said, i don't know much about linux and booting and xen. but solo5 is unlikely to work here since there's the need for xenstore etc. support, and it depends heavily on what xen (xl) expects from a guest os and what/how xen can boot guest os
<reynir>
(but what hannes said applies to me as well, don't know much about this)
<h01ger>
reynir: they dont want to read the mirage kernel by dom0, they want to start the vm and run a "bootloader" there, which then loads the kernel
<h01ger>
hannes: its xen, not linux…
<reynir>
Is this on the devel list?
<reynir>
qubes-devel*
<h01ger>
no, that was a private discussion with marek
<h01ger>
they also like the idea of adding gui support for mirage os, so one doesnt need to use the linux modules hack anymore (to provide a json file with configuration, like joe's modififed qubes-mirage-firewall uses)
* h01ger
would just like to not use grub for that, as grub is huuuuuge
<reynir>
what hack?
<h01ger>
using the linux modules file to provide a json file for mirage
<reynir>

kensan: btw, why is there no pull request for mirage and muen support? I suspect mirage/mirage needs to know about the new platform at some stage..
<reynir>
Is github.com/talex5/mini-os/ or github.com/mirage/mini-os/ the source for the opam package minios-xen? The opam file says the former, but it seems the activity is at the latter...
