hi friends - trying to get mirage up on a virtualbox guest xen dom0 ubuntu 16.04 and it's been a massive headache
<JesseChaos>
currently, opam is showing that there are many versions of mirage available, but i can't seem to upgrade from 2.9 to 3+
<JesseChaos>
opam and mirage documentation for the hello world stuff is out of date (or not relevant to having mirage 2.9)
<JesseChaos>
i can't seem to find a way to tell opam to install a particular version of mirage
<JesseChaos>
been trying to follow http://www.skjegstad.com/blog/2015/01/19/mirageos-xen-virtualbox/ which of course is 3 years old. then also figured I would just try https://mirage.github.io/wiki/hello-world but it just doesn't want to work. i guess i'll go back to ubuntu 18 and see if the hello world works there. i went to 16 to follow the old walkthrough linked first, as netplan is dumb, but haven't been able to make any progress.
<JesseChaos>
well, have a good weekend friends, hopefully when i'm next here I'll have a success story!

everything was easier when i wasn't trying to follow a super-specific 3 year old bit of documentation - although, i don't see why it shouldn't still work, but hey, i am getting mirage to run on an ubuntu 18 guest via unix just fine. hopefully i'll be able to figure out the solo5 ukvm and virtio bits and never worry about xen again!
