<cwg> Hi, I wonder whether it's a good idea to write the identifier /foo/ to /foo.html instead of /foo/index.html.
<cwg> Why create all these directories anyway?

<bobthecow> cwg: no, it's not a good idea. /foo/ is default for a reason :)
<cwg> I know this very well. My site uses URI rewriting to make /foo.html appear as /foo
<darix> cwg: usually the user doesnt care if you have .html or not
<darix> and if someone has to type the url
<darix> it is 5 chars less to type
<cwg> ok, but if these problems are resolved by URL rewriting, are there any other reasons?
<darix> cwg: why do you care at all to change the default urls that nanoc is generating for you?
<cwg> It seems to me that creating directories for no reason is not such a great idea.
<cwg> And also, it may be easier to show images, say, which are in the same directory.
<darix> cwg: actually
<cwg> (but perhaps nanoc handles this, I don't know as I'm new to it)
<darix> i do
<darix> content/foo.html
<darix> content/foo/ stuff for foo.html
<darix> which whould all end up in output/foo/
<darix> if i recall correctly
<darix> foo.html -> foo/index.html
<darix> if i recall correctly
<darix> in that case you have all resources for that one article in one place
<darix> ymmv
<cwg> agreed, but then I'd just like to use content/foo/index.html
<darix> *sigh*
<cwg> :-)
<darix> if that is the only thing you have to worry about atm
<cwg> Thanks a lot, I've got to leave now.

<ddfreyne> I implemented a nanoc site today!
<ddfreyne> !tell cwg rewriting foo.html to foo on the server side is OK. But beware that if you move your site to a different server, you may need to reconsider your approach for writing foo.html instead of foo/index.html
<ddfreyne> Hmm
<ddfreyne> number-six: hi
<ddfreyne> The bot fails :(
<ddfreyne> Anyway
<ddfreyne> The nanoc site I made today is SoundCloud internal and it has search built-in!
<ddfreyne> lunr.js is pretty nice

<number-six> ddfreyne: I'll pass that on when I see cwg here.
<ddfreyne> jaspervdj: thanks for fixing
<jaspervdj> np brah
<tom[]> when an item is filtered through erb, should @item[:identifier] return the items identifier string?
* tom[] is ruby noob
<tom[]> @item.identifier
<ddfreyne> yup
<ddfreyne> and @item.path for the output path
* tom[] learns
<tom[]> partly i'm just unfamiliar with api doc conventions like http://nanoc.ws/docs/api/Nanoc/Item.html
<ddfreyne> Ah yeah :)

<guardian> ddfreyne: denis, saw your tweet about lunar js
<guardian> ddfreyne: do you think it would work with twitter typeaheadjs?
<guardian> ddfreyne: also, do you have a repo for the site? (which site is it?)
<guardian> ah fuck missed the backlog where you explained it all

<tom[]> is this a good way to set about getting syntax coloring from fenced code blocks in markdown: http://uncod.in/blog/fenced-code-blocks-in-nanoc/ ?
<tom[]> or do y'all know a better resource?
