Did the neo900 project die? Last update on neo900.org was Christmas, nobody is talking about it on talk.maemo.org, and the last post in the forums there was almost a month ago (and was the only post that month).
<DocScrutinizer05>
not much to report, we're busy hiring layouter
<atk>
No, it didn't die
<atk>
What happened to the current layouters?
<DocScrutinizer05>
you know their names, the're in here
<atk>
Yes, ahycka I think, and I can't remember her friend's name
<DocScrutinizer05>
ceene did an awesome job creating all the footprints we need
<jon_>
Ok... am thinking of finally buying the "partial funding" shop item towards a bare board. Still having good progress then? I should give my money and be patient?
<DocScrutinizer05>
I did a few minor git commits to layout and schematics 'style' during the last few days, to accomodate for a few minor 'issues' aka questions that came up when we handed the stuff to layouter
arnaudj has joined #neo900
<DocScrutinizer05>
jon_: I can't promise more than I did a year ago, we're trying hard and there's no known obstacle we couldn't solve
<DocScrutinizer05>
just terribly short on manpower
<jon_>
No worries, that's all I needed to know. :) Thanks, and keep up the good work!
<enyc>
DocScrutinizer05: whats happened about proto_v2 and PoP ram/cpu ?
<enyc>
there was a soldering issue uurc
<DocScrutinizer05>
enyc: PoP RAM is no issue for Neo900 right now
<jon_>
If I had any experience with what you need I'd offer a hand, but I'm a cybersecurity guy. lol
<DocScrutinizer05>
it wouldn't even be an issue for GTA04A5 / GolDeliCo if they had enough funds to afford the test runs producing paperweights
<atk>
DocScrutinizer05: What I mean to say, last I head ahycka was working on the layout, was she unable to continue, was it not possible to hire her?
<DocScrutinizer05>
I think she lost interest
<atk>
I see
<DocScrutinizer05>
since she offered voluntary work, we can't prod or moan
<atk>
That is an unfortunate side effect of working on big projects as a volunteer.
<atk>
If you're looking to hire a layouter, have you considered offering to pay her?
<DocScrutinizer05>
well, we're now trying to get professional support
<DocScrutinizer05>
I started with trying to hire her, she genuinely wasn't interested
<atk>
I see
<atk>
I feel layout can be quite a boring task
<DocScrutinizer05>
I'll get to know more about new layouter on weekend
<atk>
and, long
<DocScrutinizer05>
yeah, indeed
<DocScrutinizer05>
you need to be born for that
<enyc>
DocScrutinizer05: where do you find layouters?
<atk>
in the layouter shop, obviously :P
<DocScrutinizer05>
like maybe for 10000 pieces jigsaw puzzles, or building empire state building model from matches
<DocScrutinizer05>
enyc: that's not a simple task, particularly since we want to use FOSS tools, read: kicad
<DocScrutinizer05>
and we need a professional who can do OMAP 515pin 0,4mm pitch BGA layout
<enyc>
DocScrutinizer05: have you submitted any kicad patches upstream?
<enyc>
DocScrutinizer05: so kicad/other devs carry usable patches ongoing, rather than needing to keep your own ''custom'' variants?
<atk>
If you need help dealing with the submission side of patches (cleanup, dealing with mailing lists, etc) I can help
<DocScrutinizer05>
quote from our layouter >>OK I thank you for this chat, I hope to hear from you guys ... your OMAP comment is correct. 0.4mm pitch is no kindergarden stuff :-):-)<<
<DocScrutinizer05>
enyc: we don't patch kicad. We had a few bugs reported and instantly fixed iirc
<DocScrutinizer05>
atk: much appreciated, I'll think about it
<DocScrutinizer05>

jon_ has quit [Quit: Page closed]
<DocScrutinizer05>
oh, and another BIG THANK YOU to ravelo who really saved my life a few times already during last 2 or 3 months
<DocScrutinizer05>
it been him who found the layouter
<DocScrutinizer05>
oh and yesterday werner fixed a tiny flaw in eeshow I found, you will want to build the latest version from git if you want to create the schematics pdf file yourself
<DocScrutinizer05>
atk: if you feel chatty... a short summary on tmo is always welcome ;-)
<atk>
Maybe tomorrow, I was thinking of sleeping :P
<DocScrutinizer05>
very welcome :-)
<DocScrutinizer05>
have a nice rest
<atk>
Thanks, good night.

on a sidenote: this is a list of the footprints (actually: foorprint files, some may contain multiple components' footprints) in project, many thanks to ceene for them: http://paste.opensuse.org/37078906
