<bluestorm> i just did a quite funny bit of camlp4 hacking (although i don't intend the result to be useful) : pa_letmemo
<bluestorm> the idea was to memorize a function on all its parameters, not one by one (as pa_memo already do)
<bluestorm> the produced code is really ugly, but it's interesting to try
<bluestorm> and i think i solved the weak-polymorphism issue in a quite satisfying way
<bluestorm> ( http://bluestorm.info/camlp4/dev/pa_letmemo.ml.html , output code for "let polymemoize app f x = f x" is http://pastebin.be/12001 )

<gildor_> someone using mingw port of ocaml ?
<gildor_> i have a question concerning what works/doesn't work in Unix module
<pango> it's documented
<gildor_> where it is documented...
<pango> in the user manual, the page about the Unix module
<gildor_> mingw = win32
<pango> they only mention Cygwin, but I suppose it mostly applies to all Windows ports
<gildor_> it seems to have the same limitation
<gildor_> at least for Unix.select
vixey has quit ["* I'm too lame to read BitchX.doc *"]
<gildor_> i don't see the real difference between mingw and msvc
<bluestorm> gildor_: when they mean "native", it means both mingw and msvc
<gildor_> if mingw has the same limitation as msvc

<dsal> I'm having a weird pattern matching issue. When would this code raise UnexpectedResponse("NOT_FOUND") ? http://github.com/dustin/snippets/tree/master/ocaml/lib/beanstalk.ml#L84

<pango> dsal: you should enable exceptions backtraces
<dsal> Well, I know what code is sending that, I just don't know why. It works *sometimes*. The message it sends has the same text I'm trying to match.
<pango> you mean it reaches line 85 ?
<dsal> No, I'm a complete liar. It's not failing there. :/

<aeolist> oh hi

<aeolist> so we are programming this compiler, churning out quads. There is an out of memory error in this piece of code http://www.pastebin.ca/1043319 in the "if" line if "=" is used instead of "==". luke and x.label are actually entries in the symbol table, an entry is a record of more complex stuff
<pango> probably some cycle in your datastructures, so = gets into a loop...
<aeolist> somebody mentioned to me that the data structure might loop endlessly on itself, thus the out of memory message. however seeing what the entries are consisted of counters that. no loop there. Would anyone have any suggestion or something? i am also unsure as to how to use the debugger effectively on this, as the useful messages are cluttered by messages from the Parsing module
<aeolist> ah there you are :)

<pango> with that amount of code, that's the only thing that comes to my mind
<aeolist> yeah, true... but giving you the whole code... dont ask, it goes through 3-4 different ml files
<aeolist> thank you, ill look into the code harder tommorow :)
O_Menda has joined #ocaml
<pango> but do you really mean using = here? that may not be very efficient on whole datastructures
<pango> maybe using = on specific field(s) would be enough for your purpose
