Greetings, I'm having great difficulty building sandstorm from source, it doesn't seem to be looking in /usr/include/node for the node.h header. Is there a known workaround for this?
<maurer>
maldridge: Sandstorm really really really wants to use the nodejs from a meteor install
<maurer>
maldridge: If you want to do the standard/supported sandstorm build, you'll need to install meteor first
<maurer>
and it'll use the node.h from there
<zarvox>
maldridge: if you really want to hack around it, you can probably get away with adjusting NODE_HEADERS in the Makefile to be /usr/include/node, but you'll need meteor to build the frontend code anyway

<maldridge>
zarvox: so if I just install meteor it will be able to find the headers from where meteor puts them?
<maldridge>
my understanding was that node.h was owned by nodejs directly, not meteor
<zarvox>
maldridge: meteor ships its own copy of node and its headers
<maldridge>
I honestly don't know what I was expecting
<zarvox>
since we ship meteor's copy of node, we compile against meteor's copy of node's headers
<maldridge>
hmm, I'll cut to the chase: I work with a linux distribution, is it even remotely supported to have distribution level packages of sandstorm and its ecosystem?
<zarvox>
Ahhh. Honestly, it's not a priority for us right now. We ship static binaries, enough of a userspace to run node and mongo, have our own autoupdater that applies signed updates within 24 hours of release, implement our own process supervision, and self-containerize so as to keep things neatly isolated.
<maldridge>
yes, and your preferred deployment strategy (as near as I can tell) is curl|bash
<zarvox>
All of those things tend to be things which allow us to move quickly and release features or security patches that reach users quickly, while minimizing the amount of duplicate work we'd need to do to integrate well with distributions.
<maldridge>
ok, well thanks for the info; its almost 0200 here so I'm going to get some sleep

maldridge: yes, though we also gpg-sign the installer and bundles, if you prefer :)

Hello all. I am searching for software to build my portal, had a look at the sandstorm.io website and like it. Is the website handcoded, or do you use some type of CRM?

hi
<Kambale>
I am looking for the right forum to ask question about sandstorm ethercalc, specifically about retrieving lost data
<dwrensha>
eek!
<dwrensha>
was the lost data on oasis.sandstorm.io or on some private server?

Kambale & dwrensha: I had a conversation with someone else that leads me to believe a support email will get sent, so let's rely on that for now.
