<macsystem1> Hello
<macsystem1> Hello
<macsystem1> are people still using this channel?
<moldybits> very sporadic use
<moldybits> from what i can tell
cage_ has joined #slime
* jackdaniel pretends he's not here
<macsystem1> hahah
<macsystem1> interesting
<macsystem1> I am trying to learn lisp and I got curious when I saw there was still an irc channel
<macsystem1> pleasure to be here
<macsystem1> I believe developers should take a step back and go back to the roots rather than simply learning high level framework without understanding the first thing about programming
<macsystem1> so I am starting with doing so myself first
macsystem1 is now known as gbr422777
<gbr422777> any recommendation / advice on where/how to start?
<gbr422777> just fixed my nickname
<jackdaniel> do you have a prior programming experience?
<gbr422777> of course
<jackdaniel> there are channels: #lisp (general lisp discussion), #clschool (for beginners) and numerious tematic channels
<gbr422777> I write C / C++ / Java / Obj C / backend/frontend etc.. also assembly as I learned a bit about lisp 9 years ago but never took it production level
<jackdaniel> regarding learning materials: many people will recommend you "practical common lisp" and "paradigms of artificial intelligence programming" (so-called paip)
<jackdaniel> both are available on the internet for free
<gbr422777> cool
<gbr422777> sorry to be intruding here, I realize here is mainly about slime, but I thought you may talk lisp as well
<jackdaniel> if you want to avoid hassle with setting up the programming envirnoment check out https://portacle.github.io/
<gbr422777> nice, naa I don't mind the hassle it is the fun part
<gbr422777> but I will check this out both ways
<jackdaniel> fighting of emacs was never my favourite part
<jackdaniel> I think that would be it (at least from advice I can provide)
<gbr422777> hahah
<gbr422777> cool then, thanks a lot
<jackdaniel> if you have programming questiosn #lisp and #clschool are much better than here (more people)
<gbr422777> perfect
* jackdaniel falls back into lurking, good luck!
<gbr422777> hahaha
<gbr422777> you too!
<jackdaniel> s/of emacs/with emacs/
<gbr422777> cheers, will be back for sure!
