hello all

<u77>
anyone here?
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> yes thousands
<u77>
have you seen the stellartalk page on facebook? it has lots of scam links
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> no I didn't u77, so maybe we need clients on Stellar that are more like bitcoin that don't require dns lookups to find secure transaction points
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> I personaly have run into the same scam on http://paypal.com|paypal.com that I gave away my user and password to
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> now any site link that I have to click on that involve money or security I always verify the https certificates
<stellar-slack>
<matschaffer> I re-type it or use my own bookmark for anything money related
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> good idea
<stellar-slack>
<matschaffer> granted, I think most browsers defend against https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IDN_homograph_attack now, but figure the risk isn't worth the convenience of clicking someone else's link
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> but even typing the correct letters does not protect you from a man in the middle attack that can take over the clients DNS and point you to a cloned website of the attackers desire
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> but man in the middle can't fix the https problem that is normaly just diverted to an http site instead that normal people don't realize is not there site
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> any standard public network on wifi or ethernet network is now trival with mac spoof that can reroute with just a few clicks on the attacker side.

<hurukan> cool... it has blocked the account
<stellar-slack>
<hurukan> damn
<stellar-slack>
<hurukan> that's not stellartalk you need to report
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> wow that looks convincing but I failed to find any of the 3 million give away links that worked
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> but I guess a few days they put up new links that work
<stellar-slack>
<eva> Facebook is pretty terrible about phishing reporting
<stellar-slack>
<eva> I've had our real Facebook page shut down multiple times because they can't tell the difference between people reporting phishing links posted by others, and the legitimacy of our page
<stellar-slack>
<eva> my advice is to just report the links instead
<stellar-slack>
<eva> I've issued a takedown request to the one linked by @u77's
<stellar-slack>
<eva> but honestly they do pop up faster than I can try to take them down
<stellar-slack>
<eva> a better strategy is to try to educate people about security online
<stellar-slack>
<eva> like Mat said, never clicking someone else's link - things like that
<stellar-slack>
<eva> if anyone has ideas on how to educate folks on this, I'm all ears!
