<jameshyde> fche: sorry went away earlier
<jameshyde> hit some strange issue with load average
<jameshyde> there's no load on the server, everything's idle, no D state procs, but load averge would go very high and stay there forever
<jameshyde> that's after running turbostat command. Untill I ran some ftrace command, then it would come down by itself.
<jameshyde> wondering if systemtap could be used to see what's going on

<izabera> hi there
<izabera> i'm having a few problems with scripts that used to work and the errors don't seem related to anything in my code
<izabera> rather something in systemtap
<izabera> i'm using Systemtap translator/driver (version 3.2/0.170, rpm 3.2-2.fc27)
<izabera> on an up to date fedora
<fche> hi izabera
<izabera> hi
<fche> what kind of errors? compilation?
<fche> so the messages advise [man error::pass4] ?
<fche> periodic fedora kernel rebases require bringing stap more up to date with them; an update went out to the -testing repo just yesterday
<izabera> yes it's exactly that error
<fche> ok, man error::pass4 will probably explain
<fche> and a # yum --enablerepo='*testing' update systemtap will probably fvix
<izabera> thank you
<izabera> actually yum said that there was nothing to do
<fche> it should make its way any moment
<izabera> thank you for your help :)
<fche> np, sorry about the trouble!

<eklitzke> how do i access a string parameter in a userspace market from systemtap? stap seems to think the argument is a long
slowfranklin has quit [Quit: slowfranklin]
<eklitzke> nm i figured it out
<eklitzke> user_string
<fche> righto
<fche> pointers come across as 'long'
<fche> but if you use $ptr$ then stap will heuristically decode char*s to pretty'printed strings
