fche, drsmith: fyi, same problem of not $context vars also in Centos6 (2.6.32-431.el6.x86_64)....looks like I should avoid these static functions...
hpt has joined #systemtap
<lightydo>
also, on arch linux (4.15.6-1-ARCH) with systemtap HEAD, I also don't get $context vars on reparent_leader for example (there are many others..)
<lightydo>
on the ARCH Linux I compiled the kernel and added the CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO_VTA=y in config
<lightydo>
my bad, I see that the patch fche was talking about is not included, hence CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO_VTA does not exist

<fche>
other than the vta issue, there is a whole family of problems with gcc not being able to do perfect parameter tracking for inlined functions
<fche>
(static functions just happen to be more often candidates for inlining)

amerey, is that name swap correct? kernel tgid should be the userspace pid; kernel pid is userspace tid
<jistone>
(also, I'd suggest putting "BPF_FUNC_get_current_pid_tgid returns tgid << 32 | pid" in a comment...)
<fche>
good pointo
<amerey>
jistone, i assumed that the names should be relative to the kernel's conventions, since that's how bpf uses those names
<amerey>
but i see what you mean
<jistone>
amerey, see linux/context.stp for instance, using userspace conventions
<fche>
yea
<amerey>
i see, it does make sense to revert the swap then

two commits for the price of one
<amerey>
i got a 3rd incoming, looks like gid() also performs << instead of >>
<fche>
payday!
<amerey>
for all the wrong reasons :)
