<fche> lindi-, ema, by the way we're starting to work on a different debuginfo-downloding mechanism, with a dedicated http server, which a distro could operate to serve debuginfo on the fly
<fche> this could work without having to recommend anything at step-prep time; the stap program would just talk to the server and fetch the right debuginfo data by buildid hash-code
<fche> (not just systemtap, gdb also, etc.)

<lindi-> fche: that sounds useful for many cases. is there some signature validation or do you need to trust the server?

<fche> hm, yeah probably trust the server / transport over https. signatures aren't attached to the file but to the entire deb/rpm package, so short of downloading the whole thing, the signed deb/rpm verification wouldn't work

<gromero> fche: hi
<gromero> sorry for the delay on sending the fp patch, I'm still the middle of the main issue : )
<gromero> I was trying to use userspace stack backtraces on Power too but now my understanding is that it's not implemented either ?

<gromero> fche: nm, print_ubacktrace() looks work fine on Power. thanks.
