<ksten> ksten: Hi, I'm following the instructions at https://sourceware.org/systemtap/SystemTap_Beginners_Guide/using-systemtap.html and installing on ubuntu 19.10, but I get compilation errors when I run the stap command: https://pastebin.com/8Ki602NB
<fche> ksten, hi, that class of problems (new compiler warnings) were dealt with in a set of patches last November
<fche> those are all included in systemtap 4.2
<fche> but the patches themselves are so simple that you can retrofit them yourself into an older version of stap:
<ema> also, in debian that specific error was fixed in version 4.1-11 by backporting fche's patch
<ema> I see however that ubuntu 19.10 has systemtap 4.1-9, which is indeed affected by the problem
<fche> think that's all
<ema> I'm not really familiar with ubuntu's development procedures but perhaps we could request a "sync" to fix this

<ksten> Oh yeah, adding /* fallthru */ after the two switch fallthroughs worked great :)

<fche> yeah, funny how we want to have squeaky-clean code (so use -Werror etc.)
<fche> but then gcc gets smarter / more paranoid and starts calling code less than squeaky clean
<fche> oh well
