<libcg-udderly>
i found a way to change the refresh rate of the OLED panel on the n7000
<libcg-udderly>
60hz instead of 57hz is possible on TW roms. even 62hz (it runs on my phone since yesterday)
<libcg-udderly>
I can't get past 59hz on AOSP roms though, no idea why
<libcg-udderly>
going 60hz would be a huge improvement
<xplodwild>
tbh, I don't think this would make any noticeable change
<xplodwild>
it's just placebo
<xplodwild>
eyes can only see at ~25 Hz
<libcg-udderly>
xplodwild, it does. you get one less millisecond of latency
<libcg-udderly>
xplodwild, it's not even about smoothness
<xplodwild>
that's assuming the hwcomposer respects the timing
<xplodwild>
and the rendering is fast enough
<libcg-udderly>
i can assure you there is a huge difference between 57 and 62hz
<xplodwild>
hmm well
<libcg-udderly>
plus, most apps are assuming 60hz, so I think going "standard" would be great
<libcg-udderly>
xplodwild, anyway, i'm experimenting with my kernel. if the user feedback is good enough, we will consider ;)
<xplodwild>
sure :)
<libcg-udderly>
xplodwild, i think the proposed patch will have a noticeable effect. i hope so. i think something like one frame is skipped every second because of the desync
<libcg-udderly>
not because it's not 60, but because gralloc isn't synced with the screen
<libcg-udderly>
xplodwild, i seriously can't wait for 120hz phones. this would bring the touch latency down from 16.66ms to 8.33ms.
<libcg-udderly>
which is absolutely huge when you scroll or tap. srs.
<xplodwild>
I have to disagree on that
<xplodwild>
iPhones runs with 60 Hz panels
<xplodwild>
and the touch latency is barely noticeable
<libcg-udderly>
xplodwild, you say that because you're used to 60hz screens
<libcg-udderly>
when i played trackmania
<libcg-udderly>
going from 60hz to 75hz on my screen makes a HUGE difference.
<libcg-udderly>
CRT screens were the best to play fast-paced fps games
<libcg-udderly>
you could go up to 200 or 300hz
<libcg-udderly>
which greatly reduces input lag
<libcg-udderly>
same thing for phones, except that a touchscreen makes that even more noticeable :)
<libcg-udderly>
xplodwild, it's not a mystery when the Oculus Rift DK2 uses an overclocked Note 3 panel
