<IgorPec> bloathunter: they are also / mainly applied at the build process and also during package ugprades/downgrades
<IgorPec> some are ours, but also some came from upstream
<BloatHunter> Seems like a SBC friendly mod?
<IgorPec> yes, but its already implemented
<IgorPec> this later Acquire::IndexTargets::deb::Contents-deb::DefaultEnabled false;
<IgorPec> try and see if it also makes any diff
<sbbg> Hi, I made some changes into kernel config to generate a new image. When it boot, it show "Starting Kernel..." by Serial boot, but never light up HDMI output. How can I learn what's wrong?
rubenvb has joined #armbian
<IgorPec> those some kernel changes might / are responsible for failingg
<sbbg> https://pastebin.com/CTtgq4hg Here is the serial output. I don't get it. I made it look almost identical to LibreELEC's kernel config.
<IgorPec> this means it probably doesn't boot up ... so if you need to debug, google for "debug linux"
<IgorPec> its identical until it hangs :)
<IgorPec> tells nothing much
<sbbg> I've already using serial port. I wonder how much more I can do.
<IgorPec> not sure if i can help you. debugging linux kernel is not exactly trivial, you need to lear a lot
<IgorPec> but you can just try doing smaller steps. start with a known config, enable debug options (ask google which) ... and proceed slowly
<IgorPec> more than that, i can't help you
<sbbg> ok, I will try that. I have a actual working kernel.
<sbbg> It's just that FFMPEG complain about no device or whatever when I ask it to do HW decoding. But the node like/dev/video0 or drm related are there normally in /dev. I just don't know what else I can do. ;-(

<IgorPec> [TheBug]: hey
<Werner> .rtfm
<ArmbianHelper> Check out our awesome documentation! It's tremendous, promise! https://docs.armbian.com/
<ArmbianTwitter> @DieZuckerbude (Ben Zucker 🍰): @HugoPoi Recurring builds will be done much faster as ccache is working in the background. Also check the build options to create images/kernel packages with a single command: https://t.co/KotRspyUwO (17s ago)
<ArmbianTwitter> @DieZuckerbude (Ben Zucker 🍰): @HugoPoi #Stretch is not officially supported by #Armbian anymore. It has been left for "experts" or developers to play with it for whatever reason. Though if you run into trouble you are on your own. (12s ago)
<ArmbianTwitter> @armbian (armbian): @HugoPoi @DieZuckerbude This is because you didn't RTFM :) Re-run, does at my rig less then 2 minutes. (18s ago)
<Werner> Ha, I beat you to it :P
<IgorPec> hehe
<ArmbianTwitter> @armbian (armbian): @DieZuckerbude @HugoPoi ... and you add EXPERTS="yes" and voila. Its in the menu. (25s ago)
<ArmbianTwitter> @HugoPoi (HugoPoi): @armbian @DieZuckerbude Thanks, I love what you do with Armbian very cool project ! I try to maintain our Yunohost Image with "long" term support in mind. Ok other question with ROOTFS_TYPE=fel CLEAN_LEVEL="" and is there way to skip the "Starting rootfs and image building process for" ? (11s ago)
<ArmbianTwitter> @DieZuckerbude (Ben Zucker 🍰): @HugoPoi @armbian Not sure what exactly you trying to achieve. But you can select whenever you like to have a full image for flashing for just the kernel packages. A 1-command-build would look like this for example: ./compile.sh BOARD=orangepipc BRANCH=current KERNEL_ONLY=yes KERNEL_CONFIGURE=no (8s ago)
<vertex004> hello people can anybody help me booting armbian on this hardware? thanx in advance https://linux-sunxi.org/Sunchip_SDK-758
<ArmbianTwitter> @DieZuckerbude (Ben Zucker 🍰): @HugoPoi @armbian Come and talk to us on IRC. We don't bite...usually 😜 https://t.co/LfrC7Z0yjm (14s ago)
<Werner> vertex004, If it is not supported by Armbian already it is very unlikely that it ever will. Armbian stopped adding new devices to the repo due to lack of support of manufacturers and funds.
<ArmbianTwitter> @armbian (armbian): @HugoPoi @DieZuckerbude Thank you. Well, individual support we charge so rather dig into the docs. That is absolutely not possible to provide via Twitter and for free. (15s ago)

<vertex004> the board is similar to others so it should boot at least
<Werner> Not necessarily. The dt has to match to get a chance to make it boot
<Werner> However who knows what magic the manufactur put into it to maybe even prevent 3rd party software
<vertex004> i see. btw on your forum many people used different dtb even if the board is not exactly the same
<Werner> They may have individual reasons for adjusting their dt :)
<hugopoi> Hello everybody ( I'm the complaining guy on Twitter and having lot of questions :-)
<Werner> I guessed that by the name :P
<Werner> And no harms meant. Was just a honest question ;)
<hugopoi> I'm currently building with something like "./compile.sh docker KERNEL_ONLY="no" KERNEL_CONFIGURE="no" BUILD_DESKTOP="no" BUILD_ALL="no" BOARD="lime2" BRANCH="current" RELEASE="stretch" ROOTFS_TYPE=fel CLEAN_LEVEL="" FEL_LOCAL_IP="192.168.1.141" BUILD_MINIMAL=no"
<hugopoi> But I pretty sure there is room for improvment of execution time
<Werner> Not really I think. ccache helps a lot with caching precompiled stuff... Testing stuff on SBCs can be a pain in the butt as you either have to remove the sd, plug into your pc and chroot into it or simply over and over write new images to it.
<hugopoi> Is there a option to skip the Installing, and image building part ? because I'm debugging the FEL feature
<hugopoi> ( if there is already a image in output folder ofcourse)
<Werner> You can choose to create the kernel package only. This will skip the image building.
<hugopoi> with KERNEL_ONLY="yes" , this skip the fel loading too, I will try to execute the sunxi-fel command alone first I think this is best way, thanks
<IgorPec> status of FEL mode is unkown. haven't used it for years.
<IgorPec> at least from the image build perspective
vertex004 has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<hugopoi> Ok good to know, because I effectively hit some weird Unknow option -p and --progress which by the way is in the official documentation sunxi-fel

<lanefu> i wonder how fast building armbian would chew through GitHub Actions Minutes
<IgorPec> it can be build via github?
drobo_00 has quit [Ping timeout: 265 seconds]
<lanefu> was mostly joking
<lanefu> i'm sure we could force it to run in container
<lanefu> github has a bunch of free CI stuff now
<IgorPec> ahaa.. well, we should do some more CI stuff ;)
<IgorPec> nigly or better proper CI for kernel rebuilding
<lanefu> yeah for sure.. do we have other CI stuff in Jira?
<lanefu> (CI stories)
<IgorPec> and this device testing, i am working on it every day
<IgorPec> CI stories like?
<lanefu> just like tasks for the todo list
<lanefu> in general
<IgorPec> not that i recall
<lanefu> IgorPec: btw that's super awesome olimex is going to work on those testing boards
<lanefu> especially if we can get those integrated into CI
<IgorPec> yeah, and I am also getting one prototype from Hijax
<IgorPec> i just hope we will not mix up something :)
<lanefu> haha
<IgorPec> testing facility already works quite well even withouth this device
<lanefu> yeah are you setting static DHCP IP's or anything to make testing easier?
<IgorPec> no, that's not needed
<IgorPec> router assign the same IP to the same MAC
<lanefu> ahh yeah i guess mine does that too actually
<IgorPec> yes, this is default, while timeout is different
<IgorPec> i think it doesn't clear out very oftten ... but i have a dedicated subnet with dedicated dhcp just for those devices
<IgorPec> i think i will divide this into two groups. those which works well most of the time / stable ... and those that crashes a lot. for this, this new tool will be used
macc24 has quit [Quit: WeeChat 2.8]
<lanefu> yeah thats a great approach
<IgorPec> w
<IgorPec> wrong windows :)
<IgorPec> yeas, this is a rough idea.
<lanefu> IgorPec: New WindowMaker Release! http://www.windowmaker.org/news/ now we can get rid of lxde
<IgorPec> haha
<lanefu> I loved windowmaker...in 1999
<IgorPec> OMG. but what i actually want to do once is setting I3 together
<IgorPec> window maker reminds me to SGI a bit
<lanefu> yeah same here.. been wanting ot man up and try i3
<lanefu> then my N2 will scream
<IgorPec> i3 + zsh on old pinebook seems like a rocket
<lanefu> ha i bet... is using the Browser painful on it?
<IgorPec> lynx only :)
<IgorPec> wget, curl
<lanefu> haha
<IgorPec> chromium is barely usable on a64
<lanefu> so sad... sites use to be usable with lynx, links, etc
<IgorPec> well, if you have mainly terminal work, its fine. i have gnome3 on my laptop but mainly use it for terminal. ok, browsing sometimes
