<koutsie> yes(tm)
<stipa> hard to tell
<stipa> wait a moment till devs from the US come
<stipa> they work now
<koutsie> ahaa
<stipa> those from the other parts of the world are silent
<stipa> for some reson
<koutsie> thats odd
<stipa> yeah
<koutsie> i once got this screen to turn from white to black
<stipa> it's also work time
<koutsie> but xserver crashed after that
<koutsie> i couldnt even cat /dev/urandom to it
<koutsie> its really fkn weird.
<stipa> yeah, i guess that's normal when hacking kernels
<stipa> spooky stuff
<koutsie> oh boy why "chipselect 1 already in use"
<stipa> spi
<koutsie> yes
<stipa> peeps come often because of the spi
<koutsie> see the issue here is im too small brained to realize how this works
<koutsie> the touchscreen works, the screen doesn't and i have an /dev/fb0
<stipa> if it's mainline than it's buggy as hell
<koutsie> im too small brained to change (?) the spi to you know work with the screen
<stipa> screen
<koutsie> well i just changed to my Armbian 20.11.6 Bullseye
<koutsie> sd card lol
<koutsie> same issue
<koutsie> same dto
<stipa> ili9486 is the screen
<stipa> what's the SBC?
<koutsie> orange pi one
<stipa> it has H3
<koutsie> or at least im pretty sure its an ili9486 cus its an waveshare 3.5" (or 2.4 they're all the same) copu
<koutsie> yea
<koutsie> I'm pretty sure i have spi enabled.
<stipa> have you tried this https://linux-sunxi.org/SPIdev
<koutsie> Doesn't armbian's "spi-spidev" overlay achieve that?
<stipa> i have no idea
<stipa> it's woth checking that out
<koutsie> mm im pretty sure spi-spidev enables spi, theres also some other flags ive set already
<koutsie> thanks tho.
<stipa> np
<koutsie> I'm so close, i know it.
<stipa> stick around
<koutsie> okay uhhhh
<koutsie> what in the
<koutsie> thas a bit wrong
<koutsie> the screen is 320x240 but
<koutsie> what the
<stipa> you're feeding wrong resolution to the screen and the communication with the opi 1 doesn't want to start?
<stipa> screen sends back error?
<stipa> dunno
<koutsie> Idk man
<koutsie> the framebuffer is.. not completely white?

<Church-> Hmm curious if anyone has an opinion on this. Have set up armbian focal with zfs on a new helios 64. Had set up a raidz3 pool of 5 8TB seagate archive SMR drives I got cheap. Transferred about 300GB~ in and then it stalled. Seeing this iostat reading (https://bpa.st/DOKSM) and mem is currently at 88% of 4GB.
<Church-> Set ashift to 12 when I generated the pool and compression is on and set to lzma4.

<[TheBug]> Church-: I think Tony_mac32 may have a similar config but he was not in here I think when you said your issue
<[TheBug]> may want to mention again when you see him pop in here
<[TheBug]> I know he was running ZFS on Helios64 supposedly as well
<[TheBug]> but I would ask you
<[TheBug]> what is in your 'dmesg'
<[TheBug]> and put it to a pastebin
<[TheBug]> cause it is likely some hardware error is being displayed in there
<[TheBug]> that or possibly in your logs depending how you have logging for those events in your setup
<[TheBug]> the default would be to go to 'dmesg'
<Church-> Yeah will let you know. Had to force a reboot
<[TheBug]> did it freeze solid?
<[TheBug]> if so likely kernel panic
<[TheBug]> may be worth having UART TTL cable attached to watch the console going forward
<Church-> [TheBug]: After trying a graceful reboot it seemed to
<Church-> Yeah need to do that this go around
<[TheBug]> also what kernel you using?
<[TheBug]> I know thats rk3399
<Church-> 5.9.14-rockchip64
<[TheBug]> my stable kernel for drives have been the 5.8.6 series on RockPi 4c
<[TheBug]> don't know how that really maps to your specific device but if you have repeat maybe try armbian-config and moving back to a slightly older kernel
<Church-> Yeah this was what came with the latest focal kernel.
<[TheBug]> Church-: I am not using ZFS though, I am using mdadm raid5 on 6-9 drive raid arrays with luks/ext4 on top
<Church-> [TheBug]: Got a image? I'll down grade to 5.8~
<Church-> Nod got it
<Church-> Maybe I'll wait for Tony_mac32 to come back
<[TheBug]> if you run armbian-config
<[TheBug]> you will have a series of menus
<[TheBug]> one of them will let you choose which kernel you wish to run
<[TheBug]> you will be on the 'default' for that image
<Church-> Ah right right
<[TheBug]> but you can actually both move back and forward
<[TheBug]> there are usually 'dev' kernels as well available
<Church-> I'll just have to uninstall and reinstall zfs
<IgorPec> what's the problem with zfs?
<[TheBug]> this is true I believe because of dkms
<IgorPec> build or performance?
<[TheBug]> on 5.9.14 Focal had lock-up
<[TheBug]> but didn't get console output to show the actual problem
<[TheBug]> had written about 300GB of data to the array if I have gotten it correct
<IgorPec> i have zero problems with it, running on two machnies
<[TheBug]> then the system stopped responding
scope_ has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<IgorPec> but this can be below fs
<Church-> Yeah it's entirely possible it's the drives
<Church-> Perhaps
<[TheBug]> true, I suggested hooking up UART TTL to know more as well as swapping kernel
<IgorPec> i am running it on x86
<IgorPec> version: 0.8.3-1ubuntu12.5
<Church-> Started up a new transfer. Will attach uart in a bit
<Church-> These are admittedly "used" SMR drives. Terrible as it is but man were they cheap.
<Church-> It certainly doesn't help
<Church-> smartmon hasn't given any new errors
<[TheBug]> Church-: also one of the things I do on my node to watch is: watch -n 5 "dmesg -T | grep -v Purging | tail -n 5" on a screen if you have any GUI runnign that will skip the gpu memory purging crap for you
<[TheBug]> and you can see most current output easily
<Church-> Nod
<[TheBug]> if you see a SATA or sd related error pop up then look closer
<Church-> Nod makes sense
<IgorPec> we have ZFS 2.0.1 here since previous versions doesn't work on recent kernels
