<kayterina> hello. I just tried a build for bpi0, current-focal-cli-miimal and it does't boot. It says "SPL: failed to boot from all boot devices". The goal is that I make an image that runs and then make a patch to the kernel
<kayterina> although it says no card present(https://forum.armbian.com/topic/3945-mmc-no-card-present-error-on-allwinner-boards/), I hae tried with different cards, how can it be?
<prefixcactus> For some reason my build script gets stuck when copying files to the mounted rootfs image
<prefixcactus> rsync stops at 710.48M
<prefixcactus> rsync: mkstemp "/fast/armbian/build2/.tmp/mount-current-0feta40i-focal-no-yes/usr/src/linux-headers-5.10.18-sunxi/virt/kvm/.Kconfig.IOj1Jh" failed: No space left on device (28)
<prefixcactus> If I kill the script at that point, it fails with several lines such as:
<prefixcactus> however df states that 691/776M is used.
<prefixcactus> Interestingly, lsblk tells me the partition is 804M in size and the script output states that it created a blank image 1036 MiB in size.
<prefixcactus> oh, sorry, that was an old loop device from a previous build that I mounted manually. the one that's failing has 746/984M used right now
<prefixcactus> kayterina: If this is a new board without prior support, most likely the CD pin is misconfigured in u-boot. You can try adding CONFIG_MMC_BROKEN_CD to the defconfig and if the card is found with that, remove it and edit CONFIG_MMC0_CD_PIN to match your board's layout.
<kayterina> οκ i'll try that. But a week ago I did build bootable sd's with armbian build system that's why it is strange. Thanks for that information
<prefixcactus> I'd also suggest you build u-boot manually without the rest of armbian to save compile time on every iteration, and when you get it to the boot script phase, switch back to the full armbian version.
<prefixcactus> kayterina: if so, then look at the commit history and see what's changed. You'll most likely find the culprit there :)
<prefixcactus> Also, ask around in #linux-sunxi. They're awesome guys and know a lot about how to get stuff to boot on allwinner :)

<prefixcactus> looks like rsync's temporary files are taking too much space. I'll see if adding --inplace will help

<[TheBug]> Algyz: did you try to modprobe the driver needed to see if it changed to a moudle instead of built in or maybe the driver is lacking all together?
<[TheBug]> Algyz: what have you done to actually review what is occuring?
<[TheBug]> do you know what packages you upgraded? Was it only the kernel?
<[TheBug]> did you upgrade wpa-supplicant possibly and its broken?
<[TheBug]> there are a lot of things that could be.
<IgorPec> algyz: we don't provide those kernels

<c0rnelius> why don't you y'all just `net.ifnames=0` to the cmdline and get rid of the silly naming schemes for wlan and such?
<[TheBug]> cause thats not how Debian does it, which is what Amrbian is based off
<[TheBug]> at that point why not argues for a systemd free image as well
<[TheBug]> systemd is worse than messing with ifnames
<[TheBug]> but if you need that you will want to build your own image
<[TheBug]> etc
<c0rnelius> its exactly how they do it... just read the wiki. they suggest using udev rules but also admit is not flawless.
<c0rnelius> so it kinda becomes... whats easier for the user base? crazy naming schemes or something people can relate too? Of course do as you wish, I was just making an observation really.
<[TheBug]> well I am just saying that is why its done that way, Armbian is supposed to be Debian for ARM, so thats how it is done, we generally follow same setup they use
<[TheBug]> I agree with you to some degree, I think udev naming nics is dumb, I also don't care for systemd, but they are both part of Debian, thus Armbian
<c0rnelius> I think systemd is way easier to some degree. It has problems but everything does really. But the naming scheme thing can be adjusted really easy in the nic department.
<c0rnelius> For example `net.ifnames=0` can't be used in devuan as it uses sysvinit, so ur stuck on udev rules that doesn't always "work as one would wish" and yeah that kinda sucks :D
