can someone point me to any resources about operations that are typically only efficient in hardware (vs a pure software implementation)?

the background is that small screws tend to be difficult to find in general, and especially in argentina. you could get some for mobile phones, but at outrageous prices, and then they'd of course be a "samsung gallaxy xyz set", without specification of what sort of screws they actually were. (diameter, length, head type and size)

of course, you can measure all that, but there are some sizes that are quite similar, and you may end up guessing the type wrong, which is at least bad for reproducibility
