I have SS running on 16.10. Any reason it shouldn't work correctly?
<TimMc>
sandirid: What are you seeing?
<sandirid>
well nothing right now, just wanted to make sure I wasnt making an error that I would pay for later : )
<sandirid>
are required default ports 6080, 30025 AND 443?
<TimMc>
sandirid: Not sure what "required default" would mean... you can change the ports it listens on.
<sandirid>
well when I installed it on a base install of Ubuntu 6080 was what it defaulted to. in looking at the docs it appears 30025 is also required and due to https I was wondering of 443 is additionally required. Just punching holes in my firewall to allow public access

sandirid: If you go into the conf file you can choose whatever ports you'd like.
<TimMc>
I *think* HTTPS might default to 6443, but it doesn't really matter.
<sandirid>
my config doesn't have a https explicitly declared
<TimMc>
ah, that's right

In SS admin I get "WARNING: This server seems to be unable to create a WebSocket." How do I fix on Ubuntu?

I wonder if it's a TLS or hostname issue.

Looks like sandirid left, but WebSocket issues are usually a browser or proxy problem.

It would be good to send it to HN so people know things are still happening in Sandstorm land. I cannot do it myself though.

ocdtr_web, I'm sure someone will submit it. NOTE TO PEOPLE HERE: Do NOT all go and submit it, the vote ring detector will kill it.

at Google there were people who were terrified to work on search infrastructure for fear they'd break it. I always kind of enjoyed it when I broke something.

True story (me): "Hmm, why isn't this new code I'm testing working?" ::hits F5 repeatedly:: "Still no results... Oh wait, every time I refresh I'm crashing one of the live search index backends."
