<Char-> Hi folks, I have a small cinch bot that runs fine on my OS X laptop but when I try and run the code either on Heroku or on my ubuntu VM UI get the following error:
<Char-> queue.rb:5:in `unshift': undefined method `synchronize' for nil:NilClass (NoMethodError)
<dominikh> what version of Ruby are these running?
<Char-> It happens when the bot gets pinged and only seems to affect synirc, not freenode
<Char-> ruby 2.2.0p0 (2014-12-25 revision 49005) [x86_64-linux]
<dominikh> I'll look into it in a minute.
<Char-> That's awesome, cheers :)
<dominikh> does the issue not happen with OS X on the same network on the same trigger?
<dominikh> actually, show me the whole stacktrace please
<Char-> sure, 2 secs
<dominikh> Cinch 1.1.3? Yeah, no, that's a tad too old to get support from me ;)
<Char-> oh huh
<Char-> Sorry man, my bad
<Char-> I think I know what's happened
<Char-> I downloaded another (very simple) project that already had a gemfile and gemfile.lock in place
<Char-> I'll upgrade to something current and see how I get on :)
<dominikh> issue is that Cinch 2 is not backwards compatible in some ways, so that bot would likely need to be adjusted
<dominikh> but 1.x was discontinued early 2011, so yeah…
<Char-> No worries, I'll hack away at it until it's working, cinch has always been really chill to work with
<Char-> Hah!
<Char-> Damn, I had no idea I was running a version so old
<Char-> OK, I'll definitely start over, then. Thanks for the heads up
<dominikh> anyway, http://www.rubydoc.info/gems/cinch/file/docs/migrating.md explains how to migrate
<dominikh> no worries
<Char-> Thanks for the migration guide and for the responses, I'm sure the latest version of the gem will be fine :)
<Char-> See ya!
