<mnemoc>
hdmi is enabled pretty late, even if you set the fbcon there you will miss most of the output
<KBme>
so what can I use for debugging?
<KBme>
other than the serial-usb cable, which I don't have.
<KBme>
the VGA doesn't seem to init either
<Wizzup_>
buy a serial cable
<KBme>
right
<Wizzup_>
:)
<mnemoc>
in the arm world the serial console is your real console
<KBme>
well, but i'm not really hacking the kernel
<KBme>
the framebuffer does init fine, I get the little penguins and all
<Wizzup_>
It has nothing to do with hacking the kernel.
<KBme>
all i'd like to know is where the boot process hangs and why
<mnemoc>
so you need the serial console
<KBme>
eh

<KBme>
all right, i'm sure you're right.
<KBme>
I guess I'll order an serial cable and see where I can get until then
<mnemoc>
unless everything works perfectly, the hdmi output is useless
<KBme>
and VGA aswell I guess
<mnemoc>
right
<KBme>
well, thing is it *should* work
<KBme>
I had the thing boot
<KBme>
it couldn't mount the squashfs root for some reason and that's what I set out to figure out
<mnemoc>
try passing init=/bin/sh
<mnemoc>
you can probably use env.txt for that
<KBme>
ok, i'll do that. thanks.

then u-boot is not passing them
<mnemoc>
unless you are using a kernel with hardcoded parameters

yeah, it's u-boot's fault

so, u-boot totally ignores my boot arguments
<KBme>
or at least, it doesn't pass it to the kernel, because i have something totally different showing up in /proc/cmdline that what I specify in env.txt

KBme: uSD or NAND?
<KBme>
booting from uSD
<KBme>
mnemoc,
<mnemoc>
ok. because nand's u-boot doesn't have any community improvement
<KBme>
nah i compiled latest sunxi-uboot
<KBme>
from github.com/linux-sunxi
<mnemoc>
you'll need a serial console to see what's u-boot thinking about your env.txt
<SillyBilly>
I guess i could try that. Does the built in flash have the same fs corruptions that the sd card is subjected to?

Guest40756, i didn't mean it wearing out. I read that cubie and rasberry like devices suffer from sd card corrruption when the power is cut.

oh, ok...i haven't experienced that
