hello, everyone! I need help flashing cubieboard. I tried flash it with livesuit. But I've got message "Failed flashing image". How can I found the problem?
<sunny723>
churzzz: cb1 2 or 3?
<sunny723>
churzzz: and which image have you tried ?
<Birdmanravo>
So I've taken all the steps to compile to the Mali binary drivers, but I want framebuffer support and have X11 installed. Is there a command I can use during make to set it to framebuffer?
<VargaD>
I have a cubieboard 1 and a cubietruck, shall I measure the dimensions?
<VargaD>
cubieboard 1 should be the same size as cubieboard 2
<fossxplorer>
VargaD, hi, i got by doing some more research on web. Yes, you are right, 1 and 2 has the same PCB with 10 x 6 cm :)
<fossxplorer>
VargaD, how do you look at the quality of the boards?
<VargaD>
yes you are right the cubieboard 1 is exacly 10x6 cm
<VargaD>
they seem fine
<VargaD>
I'm using cubieboard for about a year
<VargaD>
as a server without display
<VargaD>
I'm running gentoo
<VargaD>
It is running 24h a day, everything works fine, it have never freeze or anything
<VargaD>
I just started migrating to cubietruck but I have issues with the ethernet...
<fossxplorer>
Ok, great to hear. I'm also planning to use it as a server, preferably with Fedora. I will mainly use it to build a NAS box, and to be used as DNS and ssh server.
<VargaD>
it seems it just randomly drops connections, most of the system is the as on cubieboard that worked fine for about a year...
<VargaD>
I also plan to bug a hard drive
<fossxplorer>
Hmm, i see.

<fossxplorer>
Only difference with Truck is that it got 1gbit ethernet
<VargaD>
but at the moment I can't even use an ssh... it stalles about every 2 minutes
<fossxplorer>
network wise
<fossxplorer>
Oh i see
<VargaD>
cubietruck also have 2gb memory which is useful for a nas
<fossxplorer>
Could it be a driver issue?
<fossxplorer>
definitely.
<VargaD>
I think it is a linux driver issue as it worked fine with android
<VargaD>
I tried it to see video playback capabilites
<fossxplorer>
How were they?
<VargaD>
cubietruck is quite bad at playing hd videos
<fossxplorer>
in Linux?
<fossxplorer>
Is there HW decoding support in Linux for A20?
<VargaD>
no I only tried android because it has better video playback support, it might play some 720p videos but I couldn't find any 1080p that worked
<VargaD>
I think video playback support on linux is a mess
<fossxplorer>
I see. yes, that's what i've read about other devices, e.g RK3188
<VargaD>
but after the android experiances I woulnd't fore it to play video, it is clear that cubietruck is bad in video playback
<VargaD>
I also bought an rk3188 for video playback
<VargaD>
it works fine
kybos_def has joined #cubieboard
<fossxplorer>
I see. It's a pity.
<VargaD>
with android
kybos_def has quit [Client Quit]
<VargaD>
but it is quaod core A9, much more powerful
<fossxplorer>
Right, i've read that on Android RK3188 is fine for video, but suck on Linux.
<fossxplorer>
Exactly
<fossxplorer>
s/suck/sucks/
<VargaD>
I think it will change in the future because of the radxa board
<fossxplorer>
I'm also planning to buy a MK888/CS918 for use with Android
<fossxplorer>
What will change?
<fossxplorer>
The Linux video support you mean?
<fossxplorer>
Cubieboard/truck's "strength" right now is support for SATA + 1gbit
<VargaD>
the video support needs lot of time, rk3188 linux support should improve very soon
<fossxplorer>
Sounds good.
<VargaD>
yes the radxa does not have a sata
<fossxplorer>
Yeah
<fossxplorer>
Otherwise it's more powerful as you said
<fossxplorer>
I think it's the same people behind it as well
<VargaD>
I wouldn't run a hdd 24h a day without sata, as I can't access the smarts data and some of the usb drives does not even let the hdd sleep
<VargaD>
so I truned off ssh master mode on my desktop, now my ssh shells stall one by one
<VargaD>
yes it's logged from the truck
<fossxplorer>
i see
<VargaD>
when I open more than one ssh shell they stall (and timeout) one by one
<fossxplorer>
Hope anybody else with the C.T can contribute here
<VargaD>
and I can even ssh again anytime and works fine
<VargaD>
apache is accessable all the time
<fossxplorer>
What about the stability when you don't use SSH at all? Can you ping for a longer time?
<VargaD>
I even stream my audio to cubietruck and it works... but also stalls after a while
<VargaD>
good idea
<VargaD>
I try to ping it for some hours
<fossxplorer>
Yeah, try it. And turn off SSH daemon
<VargaD>
I also tried to upgrade openssh, then I isntalled dropbear
<VargaD>
but still the same
<fossxplorer>
I was about to ask something different: i'm looking for a 4 bay enclosure to house disks to be used with C.T. If anyone has any ideas, i'd like to hear :)
<VargaD>
you can only connect single HDD
<fossxplorer>
Ok, so it's not limited to SSH only.
<fossxplorer>
VargaD, yes, but i'm thinking to use an enclosure which has RAID capability
<mnemoc>
there are raid devices that present 2 or 4 disks as a single sata drive
<fossxplorer>
mnemoc, right
<VargaD>
oh, isn't it very expensive?
sbx320 has joined #cubieboard
<fossxplorer>
VargaD, that's what i thought too, but it's isn't
<mnemoc>
yes, there are usually expensive. but worthy

I made a clean kernel build, removed the remains of old builds and kernel modules. It still the same: ssh sessions stall then timeout. I also have openvpn configured, when use it insted of just directly connecting on local network it doesn't seem to stall. But this is just a temporary workaround openvpn has a lot of overhead even on UDP
