<jfhbrook> a few reasons
<jfhbrook> the obvious one being that I’ve been a data engineer for like 3 years and strictly backends prior
<jfhbrook> but also like, when I was learning programming in college
<jfhbrook> I remember rails was a big deal with some of the older people I was learning from but i was learning python because of scipy, but like I really came of age with nodejs
<jfhbrook> where it was like a reaction to ruby and rails in a lot of ways
<jfhbrook> evented instead of prefork, javascript instead of ruby, No Frameworks
<jfhbrook> except that a bunch of the early authors were rubyists and a number of those really old libraries feel like they’re cargo culting ruby
<jfhbrook> anyway I grew up around a lot of people telling me that rails sucks and that what-was-node-ten-years-ago was different
<jfhbrook> things have changed a lot
<jfhbrook> and like this whole time i’ve been running away from frontend and fullstack always doing backends and then data and yet here I am
<jfhbrook> full stack rails is the last thing I thought i’d be getting into
